My last time (and only second time) to the track times were in the 2.20 range with the same drag...

Aside from the fact that a BBC rod requires a 2.20 rod journal, let's say a BBC rod is 6.635 in length....so it's .010" longer than a stock Pontiac rod, would it work with a piston already swinging...

Oh, I did as little as possible to the short turn radius. I tried not to change the shape or height at all, but just remove the sharp edges.
