Mine weren't bad at all, no pitting, just some 'peppering' from rock shots over the years in the chrome.
But, in order to re-chrome them, you have to go through the stripping process, and that can uncover areas of the pot metal that needs to be repaired.
I ended up finding good, used ones, cleaned them up, and called it done.
