I have a wood grain A/C non-RTS insert that is perfect, not a dent or scratch in the outer trim or face, though I did slightly enlarge the holes to allow for aftermarket gauges. There's still enough of a notch to allow the trim rings to install clocked correctly, and stay on.

It was a take-off from an original 70k mile car in the 80s that I've had boxed up since. I have an assortment of trim rings, except a full set of the thick rings.
