You have to wonder what the back story is about a car like that...why it has so few miles, and how it's remained in such nice condition after all these years.

The “Pontiac” panel in the rear has the fins closer together than on mine or any other GTO that I’ve seen.
Nice car. I got a kick out of the tire marked “super low profile.”

Don't think the Tempest looking rear panel is fishy, but you would think if they want 117 for the car, they would do some homework to find out why.

It is an amazing survivor! Remember seeing this maybe some 20 years ago at Mecum Chicago. If I'm remembering right, Steve Ames owned it at one time. Also has a story about the missing wood dash applique maybe someone can speak of. Hope it ends up in the right hands and can at least be driven, if only a few miles per year!

Perhaps a car like this is appealing to some, but not to me. It's an investment that basically shouldn't be driven. No fun in that.

Yeah, interesting it is wearing a 10 rib TEMPEST tail panel. Wonder if there is a story on that.
And I like low mileage cars, but if they are not ever driven, why own them. One might be better served owning a Danbury Mint model. But then again, when you are rich, you are usually too busy making money to ever drive the cars in your collection anyway. Some have to be preserved I guess. And with a noted "period correct" block, it appears this goat is missing its original engine. What do you expect for $117,000 these days. Buy and drive it. Putting on 500 miles a year is not going to hurt anything. |

That's the car owned by Ed Lis at the time of his passing a few years back.
I have been wondering what happened to it and waiting for it to turn up. At one time I had more detailed pictures of this car than I did my own. K

Was this car a track car?

No. The original owner used it for puttering around on the street, in nice weather.
So in that regard it is perhaps less molested than my car. K

The center carb does not look correct for 65 tripower to me. Front and Rear are suspect too
A car for that $$$ and a Tempest tail panel?? does not look like the dash ever had wood grain on it. Throttle linkage is on backwards. Just think what you would find up close |

Mysterious 65
I scrutinized this car about 8-10 years ago and had several questions back then about the odd components for such a low mileage car.
I still have those same questions, especially the plastic dash bezel. How did it end up “full chrome” ? Toasted turn indicator lens. How did that happen ? No wood grain insert Funky shifter knob Weatherstripping is very bad, especially the trunk. The plus seems to be correct ..... EUN on block matches the POP number. CT

I think it’s the original engine since the EUN on block matches the POP number.

Yeah, because warranty work would never be performed on any GM product and cars always leave the assembly plant with all of their correct date coded parts.

Any derogatory remarks towards any "original" vehicle by anyone that was not physically on the assembly line at the time said vehicle was built or did not turn a wrench at the servicing dealership on said vehicle, is nothing more than clear and total speculation. No more, no less.
