221 or 260 in the Meteor? (Sorry if you already told me and I forgot)

Decide to buy a Digital angle gauge to try and check my pinion angles, Already had adjustable uppers, but had never bothered to check it.
Had a 4 post hoist at work, but had to wait till retied and do it at home. LOL. Crawling around on floor I found that trans was down 2.1 * and rear was pointed down 3.5*. OOPS. adjusted to up 2.1* and found I was able to move axle housing a touch side to side with adjustable uppers. Tires were hitting exhaust, adjusted to center the diff and road tested. All good. Now onto the next thing I have been putting off for years, LOL.

Well, I had always thought it was a 221 based on the casting codes. After I pulled the engine and inspected it, I found it to be a 260! I brought this issue with the codes up over on a Ford website, and the best explanation we can come up with is that its possibly a service replacement block.

We recently replaced a customer's exhaust system ('69 GTO) with a Gardner system (awesome quality and fit), and I bought the 2 1/2" system we removed. As time has allowed the past couple of days, I now have it under my '72 Grand Prix.
Next week I'm picking up a built '67 428 from another customer. Hoping it ends up in my '67 GTO. My original WT can go to the next owner when the time comes. |

Well... I didn't actually do this today, I had a shop do it. Both exhaust manifold gaskets needed replacing on the 455HO in the 'Bandit' Suburban, so I bought a pair of Remflex gaskets and had them installed. It's a nasty job even on a lift. I have to admit to feeling too old to tackle it from a creeper.
I can't complain about the gaskets- the engine was built in '93- 31 years and lord knows how many miles ago! I've put 50,000 miles on it without ever needing to get into the engine. What I did do on my Pontiac today was continue machining stuff to convert the lakester's broken four cylinder hemi Pontiac to a two-cylinder. Rather than source a smaller blower, I'll keep the huge 14-71, but underdrive it a bunch more (about 19% of crank speed) . This requires a 2-stage belt drive, so I'm almost finished machining a jackshaft arrangement. Keeping with the low-budget approach, and using spare parts, I'll only need to buy a couple of belts.

Got up at the crack of dawn and headed over to a show in Benicia, CA. Pretty good showing of Pontiacs. Every time I go to one of these big shows where you're locked in all day, I'm reminded me why I like the smaller casual cruise ins better.

Finally got around to getting the Firebird out of the corner of the garage. First thing was new tires. Before even starting it I removed the wheels and took them to the tire shop for a brand new set of BFG TA Radials. On the way to drop them off I realized that a tire on the truck was starting to separate at the plys. So I got two sets of new tires at once. Anyway, Friday I picked up the van with the Firebird tires in the back and had the 'Bird off of the jack-stands and ready for a test drive. Fired right up and all seems good. Yesterday was the day to shift everything around in the garage to summer mode. I think I'm officially ready for summer.

Pulled the 8.2 and have been prepping the new rear end for install. Annoyed that Moser left out the axle seals, vent tube and backing plate t-bolts for as much as this thing cost. Debating whether I paint the aluminum cover black or not.

got my windows tinted yesterday w/ ceramic film. Clear on the windshield and the lightest available for the remaining. it's uv blocking which should help reduce interior temps, too.

Nothing on my Pontiacs, but I did break my Mercury engine and cam in today. NOW, I can focus on my Pontiacs.
Man I was nervous about that HFT break in, but seems OK. It fired instantly, and runs great. Time will tell. Hopefully my 16 year old learned a few things, he’s a gear head, just like my older boys.

The H/L bezels on the '65 look to be original, and were badly pitted. Found a decent original pair that only has minor pits. Touched up the black paint, and put on new gaskets, which were a bitch to get on and stay, but got 'er done. After aiming the headlights, I put 'em on......they look OK.

1st chi-chi cruise of the year with the unprecedented weather I don't believe she has ever been on the road in April!
Only a few diehards and tons of ricers out but still nice to get out of the house.
