poverty cap '69 R/A III GTO????
looking at a palladium silver/black buckets R/A III GTO, with factory 4spd, hood tach, hide-aways, and poverty caps(no extra cost wheels or covers)...does anyone have any ideas on how "rare" this combo could be??

6,143 RAIII manual cars built in '69. There is no further breakdown for color and options as far as I know.

The '69 RA III 4sp 'vert that I owned a few years ago had deluxe wheel covers. I don't think I've ever seen a '69 poverty cap car that came that way...though I do like the look.
Good luck in getting the car and post a few pics!! Mike |

i like the look too...just not 100% sure...if the PHS invoice doesnt show ANY extra cost wheel or wheel cover, did the '69 GTO come with only "poverty caps"???

standard hubcap on a 1969 GTO was a small'dog dish' cap. Optional hubcaps included a deluxe, custom or wire with Rally II wheels also available for a total of 5 different cap/wheel combinations. If nothing on PHS then 'dog dish' it is.

Someone I know in Milwaukee sold a silver/black 1969 RAIII 4-spd poverty cap car a few years ago. This car was a very low option car with the 4.33 rear end if I remember right. It was a clean California car/project. It went to Texas and was resold shortly after and ended up in MI (I believe). I wonder if this is the same car.

The most common reason for being built with poverty caps was a situation
where the car was special ordered and the owner knew he was going to put mag wheels on the car as soon as he got home. Then later when the car was sold, the poverty caps and steel wheels were returned to the car and the mags put on another car. |

Or you just left the poverty caps on to mess with the unsuspecting!!

Poverty caps weren't that unusual to see back in the day. I remember going with my dad to test drive a new Mayfair Maize '69 with the small caps.

'69 'vert...
auto, air, 2-bbl. and poverty caps. Original owner swears it had blackwall tires.
