Last night(6pm my time) NBC nightly news aired a short special about the new GTO. Showed the car, some old goats, interview with ? some guy, talked about it having a CORVETTE engine , a CORVETTE trans , so it's a GTO huh?? I recorded the last part, but missed the first few seconds. Don't know if it will air again?

It is ignorance on the part of the perons being interviewed. But I could think of worse powertrains to have than the Corvette powerplant.

Excuzzzzzzzze me I posted this because it showed, and spoke of, many classic GTO's! Not that I intended to start a ruckus, just thought the lobby was the best place to let folks know that it's airing on the major news network.

CT,

You couldn't say Happy 04 without someone claiming it was the best year ever and someone else calling it the year of the jellybean.

I saw that last night. The highlights for me was seeing some older guy pointing to the hood scoops on his '68 saying that's how you knew what a g.t.o. was back when..... then they mentioned something about the new gto being the fastest ever and then they summed it up by taking the camera on the road in the new gto with the 64 following in the rear view mirror.

If they called the car by any other name I doubt so many would feel it tarnishes the gto and its mystique. I believe the '73 did enough damage.

Probably the only accurate reporting done by NBC in the last 20 years.

I'm surprised they didn't strap a gas cylinder underneath, make it explode, and say it was "unsafe".

My reason for starting the post was NOT to bash the 04', nor will I now. But I will say that IF I was planning on, or already purchased an 04' GTO, I would be very displeased that Pontiac would let a major news network air a primetime special and boldly state that the car features a CORVETTE anything!!

I hear ya, could be alot worse than a Corpvette engine though.

I was addressing the dismay over the segement in general.

I agree! Just seems to me that by the time there are any number of them on the streets the average person will be so confused?

Made in Aust.
Holden
Monareo(sp?)
Corvette eng.
Corvette trans.

Seems to me that Pontiac should step up to the plate and explain what exactly they are selling!

CT, every add I have seen on TV seems to highlight the chevy engine, and hides the car in the dark. I wonder why?

I think they do that so that the people that will never like it and think that is should never have been named GTO will have something to be self righteous about.

I saw the 04 GTO at Woodward in Aug, didn't wow me, but I was glad to see the effort in bringing back the traditional RWD and suspect when enough of them are on the street neat stuff like a hood with scoops, sepperate dual exhaust and other goodies will be available to give back the original look for those that want it. FYI - it is not available in Canada yet, so some of us can't even buy one, even if we wanted too!
