try carhistory.org. It's only $1. It's not as much info as carfax but gives all ownership and accident info. I recently ran 2 tahoes and an escalade. I was happy spending the $3.

96 BMW 328IS
Last Mileage 182000
Last report 2/12/2013
5 owners

All is clean (title and ODO) but there is a "Use & Event" issue that I can not see.

Paul was that a carfax report? Carfax is showing 27 records on a sample report.

Its AutoCheck which is similar to Carfax. It show 31 historical events. I don't subscribe to it so this is basically all the info I see.

Im not a car buyer, its part of my auction software to determine wholesale value.

Historical events can really mean anything.

It also tells me "Calculated accidents" and in this case there are none showing. On cars of this age, you cant trust this though. The technology wast there in 1996 to gather all the data.

If that's the car you're looking at, an almost 20 year old BMW with 182,000 miles on it, you'll be spending plenty of time working on it anyways.

When you say "all ownership and accident info", are you saying that it lists the names of all the owners (past and present)? I didn't think that legally they could give that information out.

I could be wrong on this but I don't think there's a service out there that will list past owner names. I see too much liability with that. Just my opinion

Your opinion is correct. Years ago I once received copies of all the previous titles including the owners name and addresses when I did a title history for my '67 GTO.

Try getting that today from the local DMV!
