2000 Formula rear wheel bearings
My rear wheel bearings are making some noise, like they don't have much life left in them. The car has 133K and it is a daily driver. I've checked the lube level twice due to the noise, once when I first bought it @116K, and again today. The gear lube is still full, so I guess I better order up some wheel bearings. I had a 1998 TA previously with the same milage, and I don't remember any noise from that cars rear wheels. Has anyone had rear wheel bearings fail on their TA or formula? I have the 17 x 9 WS6 wheels if that makes any difference.

I replaced both wheel bearings and seals this afternoon. When I had the rear-end cover off there was quite a bit of metal fuzz attached to a magnet on the inside of the cover. The backlash is probably about .020", the ring gear teeth edges are sharp, and I think this is where my noise is coming from. It's time to order a new gear-set. I've been thinking about putting a 3.08 in for a while now, because it's a daily driver.

I went to Pick-n-Pull today and picked up a limited slip differential and a 3.23 R&P for $121.

I installed my new (used) gears and differential. It's amazing how quiet it is now. I guess it's been whining since I bought this car, but I thought it was the wheel bearings. The torque on the pinion nut on my car and the camaro in Pick-N-Pull I removed the parts from, was not what very tight. I suspect the pinion nut loosens on these cars, something my BOP 10-bolt and my chevy 12-bolt rear have never done.
