Some clutches need to break in if they are new. What clutch did you use

Chatter/shutter is usually disc contamination, pilot bushing issue, alignment issue, or pressure plate hang issue.
I've also seen where if the freeplay isn't enough you can get some too. .

I find the street strip disc are prone to chatter more than a street only disc.Tom

I bought the disc from autozone, and its a Ford. I bought the clutch plate off eBay and the flywheel from Summit Racing. So the disc I trust from autozone and the rest of it should be pretty decent quality so I really don't know why it's shuttering. It's not really that bad but I figured being brand new it shouldn't do that. I've had other cars in the past with 5 speeds and they did the same thing on a brand new clutch rebuild or if it didn't shutter immediately, they would later on, no big deal

I am logging in to report the performance of the transmission. Transmission shifts very nicely, first gear is great when taking off, it's not too low just perfect and by the time I hit 5th gear the RPM is 1700 and I'm doing around 80. I check my fuel mileage three different occasions and every time I got between 20 and 22 when it used to be around 14 maximum 15. I had a 2200 automatic stall converter which always made the engine forever and it was horrible on gas. This is so much better, the only problem I have had was the differential bolt coming loose because of the jerking of the transmission when laying out the gas and accelerating. I readjusted the bolt for the rear end and all seems right now6

Are you talking about the pinion nut? If that came loose you have something worn in the rearend, most likely the pinion bearings. Re-torquing the pinion nut will fix it for a short time but it will most likely come loose again. Keep a sharp eye on it! If that pinion nut falls off the pinion will get sucked in and destroy that rearend.

I used a autozone Ford clutch, 10 1/2 inch. When I was trying to install the transmission, I pushed it in 30 times and let it hang on the clutch disk. It took me about 20 days to get the transmission in. It may have distorted the disk. When in any other gear, it works perfectly. The shuttering isn't that bad, just annoying. The pilot bearing was too small in I.D. I had to drill out the inside of the pilot bushing to make it work. Fit pretty good. |

Just to let you all know, I've already put 2000 miles on the transmission with hard driving , first gear burnouts and 2nd chirps. Not all the time but I've done my share , I drove it all the way to The Rod run and back to Atlanta. Im driving it while I'm in Atlanta and I couldn't be happier with it, now got to take the wing nuts off and put permanent Bolts on. Best part about this transplant is that if I blow the gears up, I can go to eBay and get another one for 300 bucks and have it replaced in 30 minutes

I removed the 350 and replaced it with a more powerful 400 ,running 10.2 compression. I drive the car almost everyday and I am not easy on it. I don't jam gears, just shift it easy, but hammer the throttle when it is in gear. I did a 4000 rpm soft clutch release and left a nice strip of rubber on the ground, I've done it in the past, but don't do it all the time. If the transmission fails,,I can replace it in a couple of hours with ease...it a joke how easy it it.plus that are cheap to buy since they have been making them for 25 years and millions were produced
My wife's car broke down and now I'm driving my car everyday now and it's running perfect

T5 in a Pontiac
I know this is an old thread, but I've got to hand it to you, you stuck with it and figured it out. Plus you gave updates after the trans was installed. ... Good job harley3296!
