Dish ccs for 55cc head, 11-1 CR ?
Guys, how big a dish do I need for a 55c E head and want to get down to 11-1 CR for CA piss gas. For 4.25 stroke and/or 4" stroke.
And can I use a 6.875 rod,.990 pin. Not sure if it would work with a 4.25 arm but I would like to run one. Thanks for any help. |

I think you are pushing it at 11-1 with the crap gas we have on a true street driving car.I think with Eheads Dave says 10.25 and with KREs 10.5.Good luck with your build.Tom

Personally I believe this thread is a good way to end up on the wrong track. I can't be more clear that the BEST thing you can do is get tlwith scotty brown and with him and only him (and maybe one other guy familiar with your new heads )with your goals. You will be HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS.
Asking everyone for opinions will take you away from where you want to go.

Bore?
If I assume 4.180 bore. Depending on a few other things like head gasket, zero deck etc. 4.25 stroke would want around 31cc piston dish for 11:1 4.00 stroke a 25.6 cc dish |

Probably one of the best compression ratio calculators on the web.

Mike, Scott's doing the pistons, maybe cam. need to txt you for his number. I lost it.
All I am asking for is dish ccs, can it work with my rods. Whatever stroke works. If the rods wont work sell them to help pay for this junk. nice junk though. Tom, this is CA pump gas track only, open header, trans brake, big stall and a car that can take it. heads are bad ass. Bore is 4.35. |

At least at the track you can spike with some good gas?As you know the tune is everything when its on the edge.I wish we could get 93 in this POS state.Tom

Also a good candidate for a short rod build!Less detonation prone!Tom

All I want to know is can I use my 6.875 Crower billets. And what stroke.
Less prone to detonation with shorter rods. That just means you make less cylinder pressure. And cylinder making pressure is what hot rodding is all about. At 11-1 with 91 octane I can just start out mixing gas, then back off the race gas. And if it runs the same (or better) when I get down to straight pump gas then there is no detonation. I have a guy that wants to buy them .Might just sell them and get whatever length rod needed later. |

Why couldn't you use those rods?

I would like to use them but I am going to need a serious dish to get the CR down. Can I do it with a 4", I am sure I can. But really want to go with a 4.25 or 4.5 arm.
I know Dan used to go with a 7.125 rod on 400s, but had to use a .927 pin to make it work. And thats with a 3.75 stroke. You run out of room at some point. |

I just noticed u have a 4.35 bore. Use a .080 head gasket with the 20 cc dish. Just doing some quick math. Gives u about 11.18:1. 1.35 comp height. This is with a 4.00" stroke

Thanks BADDTA. You know, I do have a new set of Ross 4.35 bore pistons. 1.305 CH, 20cc dish, file fit 1/16 rings, tool steel pins and locks.
I understand there is 25HP in pistons with the trick metric rings. So thinking about selling the Ross pistons and getting custom ones from Scott B. (can you PM me his cell number, I lost it) What kind of pump gas do you get in your neighborhood ? We get 91 here. I will be shifting in the 8K range. Would like to run the longest stroke I can to let the heads do their thing. Got to flow over 400cfm (not that it means much) Finally going to have some top end pull !!!. Sick of seeing cars run away from me after the 1/8th mile. |

With a 4" stroke its easy and use your rod. 4.25 stoke still easy and use your rods. Combo of dish and leaving it in the hole.

And cam timing plays a role in the equation as well.

We have 91 pump gas. Brian

Math to figure what fits and comp ratio, then select cam.
