are you suggesting the absence indicates it's a repop?
I googled it, and found a couple images - but most legitimate ones looked to be too small to share.

John, no A/C along with the rear window defogger, so no 80A alternator. 55A unit.
Price? My opinion. 40's/30's, no. 20's, maybe low to the right person. High teens all day long. |

Thanks, Mike.
I guess I saw all the options and didn't really pay attention that it didn't have AC. Plus I should have realized it's a Canada car with block heater.

I'm not sure the SD Formula would be counted in that number.
The shaker hood is UPC WX3, not WU3. Probably the order form wasn't revised when they decided to use the shaker hood for the SD Formulas?

A closed shaker is a RA car?

For 1973 & 1974 - apparently it was.
As I recall reading, the 1970-1972 shaker setup didn't pass the new for 1973 drive by noise standards - which is why a plate was pop riveted on the back of the shaker; The Formula hood though did pass the noise laws - but again as I recall, because of the EGR issue with Pontiac V8's in 1973, getting the functional Formula hood approved with the SD engine would have required another round of certification - which Pontiac wasn't interested in doing.

Yep, as far as Pontiac was concerned, all the paperwork I've ever seen always referred to the WX3 shaker as ram air, even though it was blocked. Probably just their way of referencing it as something other than a plain flat hood.

Production records show 10,313 Firebirds equipped with a shaker hood (WX3), breakdown of 10,255 Trans Ams and 58 SD-455 Formulas.
Firebirds equipped with the Ram Air Formula hood (WU3) show 1,478 produced. Mike

Price
Good discussion in this thread but not much input on my question of a fair price for the car.
Seller wants $24000 USD. I just don't see it being worth that. Thanks for your help.

The styling on the '74 is attractive to a limited amount of people.
In my mind, for every one person looking for a '74 Firebird, there are 10-30 looking for a '70-3. This car needs several things corrected to be able to sell in the mid-20's and he'd have to spend money to get there, unless he finds the one or two who just have to have it. |

In my neck of the woods, $24k won't get you much of a car. You can't even build a decent car for that, let alone a real 455 car to start with.
So in my eye's, to buy what looks to be a solid and complete factory 455 Formula that runs and drives, presents decent in pics at least, cosmetically decent, and is a real ram air car with paperwork to back it up to boot.....it's not that much money. 74's take a certain person to appreciate them, but I don't see that as a deal killer myself. Being a 455 makes it more desirable in my opinion considering that era of muscle cars was deteriorating fast. It's just not often I even see a 1974 455 Firebird anything. I like it, but I like a lot of different cars, brands, styles etc... I wouldn't mind owning it myself if I were on the market. Frankly speaking $20k where I live for something like this I wouldn't even flinch at. Offer what you're comfortable with and see where it goes. |

He is WAY high - especially when you factor in that he's looking to profit further off exchange.
Even Nadagiudes puts high retail at $22560usd - and they are known to be high. this is what they say: 1974 Formula Firebird (base value / value with selected options) Low retail: $6,350 / $7,619 Average retail: $11,900 / $14,280 High retail: $18,800 / $22,560 455-L75 = +15% Honeycomb wheels = +5% Others here in addition to myself have pointed out flaws with this car, but as nice as it is, it wouldn't (at least in my mind) be a "high retail" car - with some work it would - but not as it sits. I don't know if you noticed this thread or the ones which preceeded it - the OP might be a good person to talk to; IMHO the Formula 455 he bought was in better shape than this one; http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=802788

I don't know if this link will work;
http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Ca...r-Coupe/Values Again, factor in the costs of getting it to being better, and you have a starting point to chip away at the asking price.
