Default Looking for the correct radiator for my application

I'm in the process of putting together a 67 tempest with a 326.
I've made sure the water pump and the plates are perfect. (I'm trying to avoid all cooling issues at the onset)

I need to buy a new radiator. My car is a non-a/c car from the factory but I plan to add A/C from Classic or Vintage Air.

I've read factory A/C cars had 17" core and non-A/C had 15" core

Which one do I need? I'm not concerned with Brands *(can't spend Be Cool or Griffin $$$)

I've used ebay aluminum rads on several cars with great success. Just curious if this will work of if it has been an issue for others here.

Thoughts?

You can only fit a 15" unless you find a used core support from a a/c car. The a/c core support has a different bottom to allow the 17" to sit lower

Gee, I hope it wasn't from overheating...

I use a champion with A/C no issues runs cool all the time.

Well unless overheating will cause you to throw a rod thru the pan at idle during normal idle I don't think it was the radiator

Try a Cold Case aluminum radiator. I just got off the phone with Ames. None there at Ames but.... Pypes should have them in Hatfield. I'll hear from Ames tomorrow on what's going on with them, but hopefully I can pick one up at the show June 17 in Hatfield.

I can't figure out why we're having problems these days with overheating with the same setups we had back in the 60s and 70s. The 66 GTO I bought in 170 never ever overheated, nor did the 63 GP or the 66 Tempest Custom I had back in '72 and '73. The 66 GTO I have now is the same as it would be from the factory got cooling... with the exception of the radiator core. The SLK core has more tubes and fins than the stock Harrison. The only cause I can think of is the crap E10 gasoline we have to put up with today. And I have a low compression 68 XX engine that can burn 87 on up to 97 octane. It runs the best with 100LL or C9 (96 octane) VP Racing Fuel. Neither has ethanol in them. I use a 60/40 mix with the VP Racing to pump gas and that works well.

My Cold Case will be at the show Saturday. I got a confirmation this afternoon from Heather at Ames. And for a great price too.... $319.00.

A 326 even with ac should not require any special radiator requirements. Since you can't easily increase the height of your radiator because of the support restriction, to be safe, you can increase your volume by running a copper brass 4 row 15" radiator or get away with a 3 row aluminum radiator and spend less money.

btw, We'll have some cosmetic 2nds at the Open House tomorrow and Saturday for super special prices. Anyone that might be interested try and get there early for best selection. There's about 8 or 9 total and 1 of each in most cases.

Chris, I picked mine up Saturday. Looks really good. One question tho. Why is the petcock on the driver's side and not on the passenger's side in the correct location as are the original Harrison radiators? I haven't painted or installed it yet.

Has anyone had a problem with the petcock in the wrong location for a P119ACC CC radiator for a non ac 66 GTO with manual tranny?

The petcock on all the GTO's I've ever seen are on the Drivers side. Maybe the LeMans was different? I doubt it though.

All I've owned have been on the passenger's side..... my 1st GTO in 1970, the 63 GP, and the 66 Tempest Custom. My 79 Formula also had the petcock on the passenger's side. I talked to one person with a 67 and he says his is on the driver's side. So it seems it could be on either side. Maybe it depends on the year? So no problem, I'll just go with the flow.

Cold Case! Put one in my car a couple months ago and so far so good after three road trips over 1200 miles. Good price and lightweight.

Just painted mine this morning. Hope to have it in tomorrow. You can't beat the price.

Yeah it is light weight. I might have to add some weight to the front of the car. LOL

Gary, any chance you can post a photo of your new radiator? I need to buy a radiator for my '66 GTO and am having trouble finding a decent image of the Cold Case rads for 66/67 GTOs online.

Also, the Cold Case website only shows radiators for M/T cars, but Ames sells them for A/T cars, too. Odd that the manufacturer wouldn't have both listed, but a 3rd party vendor does...

I'm sure you are right, but from the ColdCaseRadiators.com website, if I filter for a 1966 Pontiac GTO, the only radiator which shows up in the results is Product ID: RPE34L, which is for MT. Can't find the AT version anywhere on the website. Also would like more detailed photos from different angles to see the tank design and welds better.

ahh! Ok, we'll check this out and see why the AT version doesn't appear.

If you use the category tree and choose Pontiac and then GTO, you see ALL models.

For additional photos, have a look at 'about us' page, send us an e-mail or see us at one of about 35 shows we are attending in 2017. (see show schedule)
