Default Have any Wisconsin deer hunters seen the big one this weekend?

My son and I were done hunting by 7:46 yesterday morning after bagging a large spike horn. Normally I would let a spike walk, but he was a good sized deer and the spikes were 10" tall with a decent spread. This was the first deer taken with my 9 year old son sitting with me, and he was pretty excited to say the least.

Anyone else get anything?

Well, big for a spike anyway. I would guess it dressed out at 130-140 or so. Wisconsin hunters now register deer online, so they no longer get weighed.

I just got back from hunting Crawford County over by the Mississippi River. Terrible over there this year. I don't get a deer every year but I usually see a ton of them. Saw nothing. This year, there were 7 of us hunting my buddies land and opening morning only one guy saw 3 small does and 1 bigger one and he passed on all of them. Hardly any shooting going on either. Even in town you would usually see some in trucks by the bar and there was nothing. And the ride home to Milwaukee I usually see a bunch being hauled home. Only saw one. Sucks too because I had like 3 tags to fill this year.

I live in Pa. 2 weeks ago I got a buck with the frontend of my 2016 Chevy Colorado, $8000+ in damage.

If you want to kill a deer without leaving your vehicle, PA is the state to do it.

We have our share of deer/car collisions here in WI too. I've hit 2 in my 28 years of driving. All happened within a mile of my house. Last one I hit though with my '03 Silverado, I nailed the thing right in the middle of my bumper going about 30 mph. Only noticeable damage was my crunched up license plate. Deer was toast. Had a buddy in high school hit one on the freeway with his '76 Starsky and Hutch Torino. The thing went right down the drivers side of the car. Sucked because that car was pretty mint.

I believe Texas holds the record for Deer hit by cars/trucks. I delivered a car to Houston once from San Diego and couldn't believe the amount of live Deer and dead ones along the way.

I'll raise your $8k with a 65mph deer hit on a new F-150 in MN, $13k in damage. First time for me but many many close calls before. MN has to be near the top of dangerous deer driving states.

Going to and from Chicago, there were a LOT of dead deer littering the side of the road. A couple had spikes (long) that could be seen at 70 MPH.

West Virginia is full of deer. Large deer herd + small state equals lots of deer collisions. I drove over to Spencer Co., IN (60 miles west on I-64) last week. I counted 8 deer smashed in those 60 miles.
