Default First outing in the Camaro/IA

Well quite a deal! First had a blowout on the trailer on the freeway. Luckily on the side away from the folks going 80! A 1/8 mile track I have spectated but never run at. They crammed an 1/8 mile dragstrip between the asphalt(used to be dirt) circle track and the edge of the property.

Got there basically no tech.Take your card , put numbers on the window. They needed it lots of cars running that should not have causing track delays. 3rd gen broke all the studs off a rear wheel, other car leaking. Burnout area was scary, narrow, up hill and about 3 car lengths. They told me to start when there were still 30 people in front of me that had been behind a fast Camaro. Line lock would not hold good and car would start sliding to one side in the rear as the tires were lighting up. So never got a decent burnout.Put me in that lane both times. Poor lighting down track so fairly dark. Brakes work but not great maybe not totally broken in or I need a small diam MC, car pulls so fast could not really see the tach-or figure out how to get the replay mode to work in the dark. Still not sure if the convertor is too loose or just right. So a new to me sketchy track and new car at night , full harness limiting my mobility/visibility , crappy burnout . Best was low 7s @ 102.5 and a 1.73 60 ft. Never going back to that track! Dew was starting to set in also. Buddy and I decided best to pack it up before something bad happened.

Going to get a shift light there is a wire off the tach for one.. Next track day is at a track I've been at before, wide burnout and staging area. And you don't feel like you need a gun in your pocket!

Sounds like a boat load of fun, a shift light will make things much easier. You may need to bleed the brakes once more if the line-loc isn't holding. Good luck at the next outing.

Sounds like an adventure...mph is fast enough for 6.60 or 6.50s with a good 60' time. Good luck next time out. When is the next track day?

Feb 9 weather permitting, Feb is generally coldest and wettest month here. They had one scheduled earlier this month at that track but was a rain out. The car club is having every second Sat evening at the better track also. After Hennessey Motorsports and investors bought the track and added a road race loop on the return road(barely wide enough for one car) they have cut down the events there. I think he uses it to sell customers on his high end Viper etc builds.

The track last night when I went to watch a friend's dirt sprint car run there years ago had a much rougher crowd then. Especially the Hobby stockers. Counting the missing teeth to tattoo ratio was easy to do then!

At least you got to make a few shake down runs that let you know of some issues that need addressed. Next time out will be better!

Amazing the stuff that shows up at a "no tech" track. This reminds me of a crappy 1/8th mile track I used to run at in Jackson MS. The track was actually about 150 foot short of 1/8th mile, to provide about 400 feet of shutdown. If you weren't standing on the brakes as you crossed the stripe, you were in the sandbox. Beyond that was the backside of a baptist church. Poor track prep, poor officiating, poor lighting, no shutdown. Whenever I ran there, I called it "going to church" because I was sure I was gonna end up the amen pew.

Yep that was at least the plan to shake it down a little. I got antique plates so I drove it a little on the street a few weeks ago.

Good news is it drives straight no pulls and does stop OK. Try and get a fw more and get it consistent so I can play with timing, jetting and shock settings.

Cam is 268/272 @ 0.050 so close to yours.

Skip, was it the track located next to Rio Bravo MX? Several have been killed there I've been told. Very sketchy

LOL sounds like my local track on a Friday night..no tech..and even the crappy burnout box.
Other than the issues I'm sure your glad to see the mph at 102 for the 1/8th first time out.
Congrads on getting it done and out!

Yep!

Here is a picture. You can see the fence and trees on one side and the circle track is on the other side. Return road has to loop around the circle track.

"Counting the missing teeth to tattoo ratio was easy to do then! "

Bwahahahahahaha ! Awww yes, Houston Motorsports Park.

Used to go years ago when the Fairmont was running in a heads a up racing series, John actually liked the track. I was really amazed at the number of people in the stands going crazy with all the betting, flashing TONS of cash and hooping it up. It was a hoot!

John said after a Pro Mod ran off the end they moved the start line back a fair amount-why the burnout area is smaller now. I went and watched John race there a few years ago and saw it was kind of rough and tight lanes-a little different when you are in the car!

I got the tooth/tattoo ratio from one of my MD buddies I used to workout with at the gym. He was a big salt water fisherman Speckled trout, redfish. Lived down near Galveston , then lived in Corpus Christi for a year to be closer to the beach , then back to near Galveston. He said Corpus had much worse homeless folks with the tooth/tattoo ratio worse than Galveston!

FEB 9th I'm out of town. When you go again I'll bring my ride as well.

As you know. Royal Purple seems to be a top notch venue for Friday night racing. Never been to Sealy. But I have a few friends that have gone and seem to like it.

Sounds good. Baytown is a good track but often an overzealous tech guys. I hate pulling the trailer down I-10 in downtown with all the idiot drivers.

Went out to Sealy a few months ago, not the track it once was.

Yep once Hennessey took it over it seems mainly there for him to sell high end Viper etc builds. Prep used to be great now not so much. Many of the local Viper folks got screwed by him on various builds years ago but he still seems to command a following.

Skip,
Was that the modified sleeved Demon?
That thing spun my car around a few times...

Jeff yes I've kept that on it as we dynoed it mainly with it. Once we get the combination consistent I am going to try the "plain" 850 Demon to see if the smaller venturis are more responsive in the car . I actually recently on E bay found some different smaller sleeves to try and the bag I got from you with the annular boosters. It was MIA in the garage for a year or so.
The "big one" feels pretty darn responsive so I doubt I'll see much difference. I am right now running a 14x4" air cleaner on a 2" drop L-88 base since I may put it around on the street more but we'll also try a run without it once it is more dialed in.

The current sleeves you have as I recall are the silver 1025 (1.590") sleeves so they are about .030" larger than the 850 (1.562") sleeves.
I'm thinking your cubes will like the 1025 better on the top.
