Ford vs Ferrari
Ford Vs Ferrari
I happen to have the opportunity to see this movie today and I have been going back and forth whether to go or not as Hollywood always takes creative liberties on movies and it’s not always for the best, but I held my reservations. I was a big Ford fan growing up in the 60’s and 70’s racing my 1965 Mustang to a best 12.90 @ 105 mph corked up on street tires at Irwindale and then that closed Orange County Raceway. My sister had a Shelby Mustang and cruising on Van Nuys Blvd and street racing was a weekly event for us. After watching this movie Ford vs Ferrari I thought it should have been called Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles takes on Ford…… or Don Beebe is a Putz, as the Ferrari part of the movie was short and sweet, it shows when there was supposed to be a merger between the 2 companies Ford and Ferrari an then Enzo told Ford to stuff it and then in the finale 24hr @ LeMans. Less than 25% was devoted to Ferrari but I was impressed with the friendship between Shelby and Miles and what a tragedy that Miles could not repeat his domination as a driver, test driver, car developer in 1967. If you want to see a good feel-good movie that has some nice cars in it this could be the one you see. I brought my wife and she also enjoyed it and that’s a big Win/Win!

Great movie.
It was about that time that Ford had to change the 427 from a top oiler to a side Oiler so it could withstand sustained high RPMs.

Good movie, but there is a far better documentary film that was done years ago. I have a friend that works in the shop that built all the cars for the movie ... all of them have late model Chevy engines with vintage engine sounds dubbed.

Is it the documentary that's currently on Netflix. The 24 Hour War? The wife and I watched it a couple nights ago, and really enjoyed it. Very well done and informative.

I havent seen the movie yet, but anyone who liked it should read the book "Go Like Hell" . Its a non fiction account of the same story with a lot more detail than a movie. The best automotive book Ive ever read. Even better than Smokeys stuff. Detailing the history of GT racing was especially fascinating. How in some circles it basically became was tournament jousting was before it. It was something dangerous for the 3rd son of a Duke to partake in.

I thought it was a good movie. But I thought the 24 hour war was better. IMO Rush was a better race movie.

It was kind of funny seeing Jason Borne and Batman rolling around at the park though!! the Bostian/Texas accent was a tough one for me as well!

I enjoyed it quite bit. Still a little hard for me to make the leap of Matt Damon as Shelby, but a great flick overall.

Having had the chance to work with Carroll Shelby on a couple of projects..., I'm struggling with Matt Damon in that role. But it's a movie, so I'll have to let that go. I'll be seeing it this coming Saturday when my son's back from college. Looking forward to it, and to see whether it can topple McQueen's LeMans as my all time favorite race movie

Matt Damon
Damon is a good solid actor.
Take a look at Jay Leno’s interview with him ( full episode intro ) here: @ https://youtu.be/9i_McA5BlKE He can act - plus he is not a Dick in real life .... Jim

I was in Savannah last year, stayed at the Westin on the Savannah River. There is a golf course attached to the property. I played a couple of complimentary rounds of golf in the middle of the week. I was told to skip a hole as it was closed because of a movie that was being filmed. I wandered over to check it out, turns out it was this movie. Kind of looked like an old abandoned road track. Sounded like they were filming crash scenes that day near the grandstand area. I was at the back side of the track, still pretty cool. The side walls were all done up with old banners.

I saw it on Friday with my son and enjoyed it very much.
I thought the dialog was good (not weird lame contrivances, like Two Lane Blacktop or Fast & Furious), relationships seemed realistic and the cars/driving were awesome. The period correct clothing was spot on. I also cannot look at Matt Damon and think "that's Carroll Shelby", but Bale was excellent as Ken Miles. Henry Ford II was a nice surprise, as was the guy that played Lee Iacocca. The setup in Italy was fun, too. I'd like for my wife to see it but as she is not a car guy this will be an uphill battle. K

My wife and I went Saturday as date night and we both really enjoyed it. As with any car movie, I struggle not to nitpick accuracy but this one was well above average in that regard. Take it as entertainment and not a documentary.

Yeah I can't get Matt Damon as Shelby at all. But everyone says it's a good movie so I got to see it now. I was also thinking Jon Bernthal as Lee Iacocca wasn't the best cast but he's a better actor than Damon and others say he did a good job. Of course Christian Bale gets the job done.

Plus, my wife and I enjoy seeing movies like this in the marquis theatres. Big screen, big sound and big seats. A nice cold beer and chips and guac...oh yeah!
My wife really enjoyed the movie and she's anything but a car enthusiast. There was a crash I think into the first lap of the race that made her jump real good. |
