Just saw pics of the F4. Nothing like turning Jet Fuel into noise! Gentlemen THANKS for your service!! I was in the Army for 20 yrs flying AH-64 Apache's. Only time I got to fly in Air Force planes was when I was MedEvac'ed out of Tuzla main, Bosnia to Germany in a C-130. From there I road in the back of a C-141 medical bird to Andrews AFB and from there in the C-9 to Ft. Bragg NC. I was very well taken care of by my Air Force brothers. Nice to know there are other veterans in the forum who have a passion for these street birds.

Looks like it has a "Y" in the VIN instead of an "X".

The repro window sticker shows functional ram air, but the air cleaner looks to be a OTC style. Body is 05C.

If it had a 'X' in the VIN, it wouldn't have the Formula hood.

Hi Guys,
This is my first post to the 455 HO forum. There are some beautiful cars on here and the level of knowledge about these cars in amazing.

I have read that only 1286 Trans Am's were produced in 1972. Can someone here tell me how many 72's were Lucerne Blue automatics with factory A/C, tilt, power windows, and the blue deluxe interior? With the 455 HO, automatic, A/C equipment is the rear axle ratio 3.08?

'72 T/A production.

828 automatics, 458 M22's.

the number of Lucerne blue cars to white cars was aprox 1/3 to 1/4. Thats all based on observation & tallied numbers by us longtime '72 guys.. PHS can't break it down further than that.

There may be an official option total sheet that's floating around that shows how many total '72 Firebirds were optioned with power windows. Also a total number all year for '72 Birds built with tilt. in my files, have a copy of similar option totals for '71. Axle ratio with M40 & AC is def 3.08. With M22 & AC, car received 3.42's.

my WAG for '72 HO Form's is 3-1, turbo 400's over M22's,
with a good 2/3 of the M40's having AC.

Thanks for the info guys! I'm sort of suprised there is not an exact breakdown of white to blue 72 Trans Am's. Weren't these were the only two available no cost colors?

The 3.08 auto A/C gear ratio explains why my car did not mind crusing at 70. My car also has the rear bumper guards, but I really don't care for how they look. Are the deluxe seat belts the same color as the upholstery? Mine are black and the interior is blue.

I have not checked all the numbers on the car, but the carburetor has 7042270 on it as I recall. Is there a link that shows info on where I should look to verify what is still original to it?

Also, is the Y99 handling option on the Formula the same as the standard suspension on the Trans Am?

Y99 did include 15x7 wheels & F6015's, the hd springs, shocks & big swaybars. When Y99 was ordered on a Formula, one still had to further order rallyII's or honeycombs, otherwise the 15x7's were plain steel (code AX) with poverty caps.

Unfortunately, the T/A's we're not sorted by color back in the late 80's when Fred Simmonds went through all the microfish.

On the Qjet, feel free & take some pics of the throttle linkage, all the raised numbers. Don't upload the pics on here, many of us are not going to post the info for wannabe restampers.. If you can go to my profile, click on email, send a brief note, will look them over & get back with you.
