I have my battery in the trunk and I ran a dedicated #1 from the battery to the back of the head. I have aluminum heads too. I just made sure to use one of those "star" type lock washers that will dig into the head under that cable end. I haven't had any issues with starting or anything else electrical. I would not use the frame as the main ground. Use the block and run body/chassis grounds from there.

I have Alum. heads & I have 2 grounds on my car. I run the one right off the battery to the bolt on the back of the power steering pump the one thats on the outside of the triangle bracket & then the other groung is a 2 gauge wire ground that goes to the front of the right head & then to the frame, I use star washers on both ends of the cable. It's a cable that I got a the local tractor supply store & the cable is for a lawn tractor that has a loop on both ends & is copper on the inside. They use these cables for the battery connetions, it's about 12-14 inchs long. I also have the small copper ground dtraps on the back of both heads to the firewall. Before I had the 2 gauge cable on the right head I had a hot start concern but not anymore.

I ran a cable from the batt to a spot on the frame by the engine mount, then to the block where the engine mount is. If you have a block with open holes for a mount that's not is use, can use that too.
