What are you guys running? I am using MSD super conductors made for an 80s 454 so it would come with a coil wire. These wires no matter how I arrange them are too long. Any suggestions?

If you don’t want to cut and crimp your own wires, I found the Taylor BB Chevy 454 set with 45* plugs to be a really nice fit. They offer that set in both traditional and HEI. The 8mm ‘Thundervolt’ set has really low ohm resistance and will fit in most factory looms for a near factory look.

Ask yourself first if your keeping the valve covers you are running now, should you go to taller set you may need that extra length you have now.
Ask me how I know this.

Also you can buy just new ends and the needed stripper and crimper and save yourself some bucks and then get the exact length your looking for.

I went with the Taylor Thundervolt 8.2mm set (86032) mentioned on my 400.

Seem to fit nicely in a stock-ish configuration (note DUI dizzy).

I got the Taylor Street Thunder 50053, 8.0mm cut to length with 135-degree boots (LINK).

Below is the set that was on the car when I got it. The fit was good too but not quite as nice as custom. I don't know what type of terminal you need for your distributor.

I don't know where those wires came from but this looks like the same set, same markings on the wires.

supposedly many great reviews on them
i will try a set the next time
or just make your own using MSD or Moroso wires

i am considering a new set, and if you have an EFI system that is suseptible to RFI/EMI i have heard nothing but good things about Magnecor
i am aiming for the KV85 8.5 mm cables. You can even custom order your set with every lead down to the cm and with correct angle on each individual boot if you desire. without extra cost.

I believe our Pontiacs are supposed to have 135* boots on the spark plug end....

Just depends on which end you look at. One way is 135° and the other is 45°. The 135° is the correct definition for the spark plug boot, but it also happens to be 45° from a straight boot.

So BBC 454 wires tend to be a good choice it seems for application fit? In the process of needing to order a set now for a Pertronix HEI

I have Taylor Spiro Pros in the LeMans and Moroso Blue Max in the Bird - both are cut to fit sets with 135 degree boots. If you want them to look nice you will need to put in the work and cut to length. MSD SC wires are among the best - as indicated above, you should buy the ends for the wires you already have and get it done. It really isn’t that difficult and the results are well worth it, especially with a car as nice as yours.

Spark plug wire descriptions are goofy.

"Custom fit" plug wire sets are all too damn long, so they fit every possible application.

"Universal fit" plug wire sets are cut-to-fit your exact application and routing.

Stop buying fully-assembled plug wires. Get the kind where you cut-to-fit, and install the distributor cap terminal and boot. The spark-plug terminal end is the one that gets the most abuse, and that's factory-installed. I tend to leave the plug wires just long enough that I could make one repair--cut out a bum terminal, crimp a new terminal on the wire, and still have it fit. So about one extra inch beyond whatever is "perfect" routing.

Some dielectric grease, a spark-plug wire terminal crimper, (which may be included with the wire set) and a single-edge razor blade...easy.

BBC sort of fits. Most too long and one very short. I always go for the cut-to-fit wires (Taylor 73053) so can't comment on the fit of the Pontiac specific part number.

The Taylor cut-to-fit wires have ends for both the standard and the HEI terminals, but if you go for the premade wires you need to order the wires with the correct ends.

Yeah I think I’m just going to order some cut-to-fit wires. Now checking out a set from Summit Racing, because they are made in USA. Which is rare these days.

I have Summit "house brand" cut-to-fit wires on several of my vehicles. I've got vehicles with 90 degree plug boots, and with straight boots. I've been entirely satisfied.

I've never used the 135-degree boot style.

The Summit sets are shipping with a different crimper tool than they used to supply, but I don't see that as a problem.

I’m probably in the minority here but EVERY SINGLE time I use cut to fit wires I want to kick myself……I absolutely hate the process. Plus I never think the crimps are any good….

I Just replaced my wires and on a whim bought two sets of inexpensive 8mm wires (packard?). They are actually decent. I cherry picked the lengths I needed from the sets I bought. Think I spent 40 bucks and didn’t fuss with one wire!

I use Taylor 10.4mm. Yes you have to make them but it's n0 big deal. brilliant after sales service as well.
