Default Anyone get the fully assembled 68-72 seats?

Just curious if anyone has experience with the complete fully assembled bucket seats that are available.. How is quality, and do they come with the tracks if I currently have a bench seat?

They probably need more info? Stock seats ? From
Who? There’s a lot of pre assembled seats that fit that year .

Since it’s in general tech we don’t even know what body type? Unless I’m missing something. Just trying to help you get some reply’s.

It's the 71 GTO pre assembled seats from Ames, etc. Price has gone way up recently, almost 4K now! 😮

They are PUI, and yes, I bought a pair.

Quality is good-very good, but the comfortweave inserts are just a stamping and no actual ventilation.

Also, the padding is way too thick, they sit up and forward at least 2-3", which IMO is terrible.

I have it on my punch list to pull the covers off, and trim the foam. When I get to that point, I will look and see what covers are available, and if there are more factory-like options out there, I will use them.

I think I created a thread on them here, and you can see them in my build thread.

I like the 71-72 interiors better than the 70, so that's what I used.

There are new set foams out now that are MUCH better, Thorton carries them, but think Ames may as well. Haven't looked in a while.

I'm seeing the seats in the Ames catalog are listed at $3199 for a pair.

Here is a link to the Thorton foams:

https://www.thorntonmusclecars.com/p...foam-full-slot

They are supposed to be the best on the market, but for 71-72, they don't offer one with the center groove, but sure you could cut one in.

I had the info for the manufacturer, and thought they do offer one with the center slot, but I can't find that info right now.

The repop seats are made with PUI covers and PUI seat buns (stiff as bricks). The frames & springs are made by Dynacorn Industries.

You are basically paying a premium for the lowest grade reproduction upholstery & buns. The seats are going to be extremely stiff, both raising you up too high and too far forward once installed. The only real benefit to these are they come with everything in one package ready to bolt in... For someone without bucket seats to start with, you avoid having to track down and buy everything.

That said, I would not recommend them- you are much better off buying top quality upholstery from Legendary, the good (SOFT) buns from American Cushion Industries and have someone that knows what they are doing restore a set of original frames & springs.

Original frames are getting harder to find and more expensive, but they are still the best bet around. AND, all in, you would likely still be at or under the cost of the complete repop seats after you consider shipping and tax, but with much better quality materials.

You can knock even more off if you are willing to try your own hand at the work. (its not for everyone, but its far from rocket science)

Just the thoughts from someone who's done a lot of these.

Agree w rambow on just about everything, some things, 'it depends'.

Right now Thorton has the best seat foams, and are not just for Olds cars:

https://www.thorntonmusclecars.com/p...foam-full-slot

I bought my seats because of time, and knew I was going to have to redo them.

The ones I have, the covers are comfortweave ones, and are crap. At the moment, no one makes the comfortweave covers, correctly that is. Though I did hear chatter that some have purchased material, and sent to Legendary to make covers. THOSE are supposed to be 'very' good.

I posted a thread reviewing the buckets when I got them, search it, there is tons of good info on that thread.

I am going to go back over them, it's on the 'list'. I was at already 7 years under construction, so I was more concerned about getting it together than making it perfect right off the bat.

I was just searching for listing wire, I'm about at the point where I'm going to start collecting stuff for the seats.
