Default Rear Trim Sealant?

Hi all.

How is the rear chrome trim on a 66 or 67 sealed so water does not leak inside through the mounting holes? Is there a rubber used on each stud or is some form of body sealant used? See pic for what I mean.

Also the ones I bought did not come with the nuts, what sizes do I need to buy for all 3 trim pieces, both sides and the deck lid one? Does Ames sell them separately?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thumbs up

The Extension Moldings originally had a small foam rubber type seal and the Deck-Lid clips had a nut with a rubber seal made into it.

These all deteriorated over time and I'm not sure anyone offers exact replacements.
What I do is apply/warp a small amount of 3M Strip Caulk around the pins on anything that is set into a body hole. It works perfectly for this.

3M strip caulk is good stuff. It doesn't harden (which also means it won't go bad sitting on your shelf), and you should be able to find it at most any auto parts store.

Another good use for it is sticking the vapor barrier in place that goes behind the inner door cards on your doors.

Stumbled upon this thread and found info that I didn't know I'd need! Awesome.

Thanks guys, I was thinking about the white 3M strip caulk, that's the same as the heater box then, that's great info.

Any idea about where I can get the nuts and clips from though, and what sizes they are?

Oops, the link you provided didn't show up in your post when I read it earlier using my phone, but I see now on my laptop that you are referring to something else.
