Default Which commercial black is the best for darkside underhood parts (shrouds, etc)

Someone said Eastwood Underhood black, but, as a lacquer it is susceptible to solvents... what say ye?

You need an activated paint. 60% gloss. I've sprayed acrylic enamel for years with no issues. I try not to dump MEK on either but ANY topcoat is susceptible to solvent pop with enough exposure.

No issues with Eastwood for me and exact match.

Gas does not seem to have any effect, but of course I have never spilled anything under my hood. Yeah right.

Eastwood does not mix well with brake fluid. Other than that I like the color alot.

Haven't used the Eastwood stuff, but for a lo-fi driver (the crap I own), Krylon semi-flat has worked well for me.

John Deere makes "Blitz Black" which is flat and a nice semi-gloss black. Pretty economical at about $14.00/ qt and looks good to my eye.
I use more semi-gloss as I like the look under the hood. Don't know if they make it in spray cans, but probably so.

Gloss varied from factory to factory and year to year. For best results - PPG DP-90 epoxy primer. Heater box would likely have a bit more gloss to it - per Nixon's comment - a 70% would have a bit more shine (heater box), while 60% will get you same gloss as DP-90.

It's Bill Hirsch's chassis black on the front end of the chassi and under the hood in my car.
Even the the black parts of the interior is the same semi-gloss paint. Maybe not correct but it works for me.
