New Goat Owner
Hi guys, just got a 2005 GTO LS2 6 speed. I pick it up Saturday. It has only 9466 miles on it and looks like it just came off the show room floor!

Welcome to the forum. You'll love the goat and in about ten years when you are still driving it will be considered a classic just like the old ones.

Welcome to the site & congrats on your GTO purchase. I bought a 2004 Quicksilver/RedHot 6 speed new. I drove it 20K in 8 months & then decided to sell it because we were expecting our first child and needed a better family car. Plus I needed the garage space for the '66.
I'll get another one sometime soon.

Tod, it seems like you still have some cars and the truck. I'm building a 65 C10, based on what I believe a 65 SS Chevy Truck would have been like. This truck even came with factory original AC, if you can believe that. So many dreams to do before it's all over.... Best wishes friends. Mike in Oregon

Yeah, I got about 10 planned builds in my head. No money or time for any of them.
I'd like to see more of the C10 sometime. PM me some pics.

Ok, I have a week of driving under my belt and I really like the goat other than 2 issues! Both are with the shifter / transmission, its a 6sp. Whats up with the "1-4" shift lock out, and the gear shift level, @$#%#, it will get a upgrade will soon. Any suggestion?

The skip shift can be eliminated 2 ways that I know of. You can purchase a skip shift eliminator fairly cheap around $35.00 - just plugs in at tranny. Or you can have it tuned out with a custom PCM tune. As far as shifters go I have a Hurst it works real well but took quite sometime to break in, was tight. I hear a lot of good about the GMM rip shifter. If I was to buy another shifter it probably would be the GMM rip shifter street version. You may want to check out LS1GTO.COM lot of good info over there.

easy way to avoid the skip shift, just excerate a little higher in first gear. don't need to beat on it of the line, just over 20 mph, no real big deal. i guess i have just learned to deal with it. don't care for the stock shifter either, but hey it works for now. upgrade someday i hope.

I've been driving my 06 since I bought it new March 2006, and have right at 40K miles on it now. It probably ranks on top of my list of favorite performance cars that I ever bought, even after almost four years.
It took a while to make friends with the shifter. But I got rid of the skip shift after the first few months. A new shifter costs $$ and would take some time to install. The skip shift eliminator is cheap and it only takes a few minutes to install. I didn't realize how much of an aggravation it was until it was gone.

Very Cool
I picked up my 05 (7300 miles) on the same day! Flew down to Reno Thursday night, Picked up Friday Dec 4 from Winkel Pontiac, drove the Cyclone Grey Goat back to Canada.
I love that new goat.......hard not to smile driving it. Lots of bad static on it, but it reminds me of my 70 when I'm driving it, long throw shift, rough, doesn't steer, hard to see out of, everybody looks at it, but hit the gas and grin. It is 100% goat.
It's my Dr Phil.

Rough, does'nt steer. You better get that thing checked out. Mine rides nice even with the 18 inch wheels, handles like its on rails. I have driven mine through the twistes at speeds i would not dare in other cars.

HaHa, its actually pretty good, just these Canada frost-heaves on cold, cold, 18 inch allseasons. The winter "ruts" in the pavement throw it around a lot
Weird winter over on this side of the continent, must be the El Nino.

Yeah I like the new GTO also! I purchased a 2005 in April last year with 3,900 miles on the clock. It now has 5,100 miles on it and it is a blast to drive. After installing Kooks headers, cat delete midpipes, SLP loud mouth exhaust, 160 stat and a Dyno tune it produces 376 RWHP and still gets good mpg!!!

LOL. You got me on that one. Wasn't thinking about driving in the snow. Mine has been in hibernation since beginning of November. Ditto on the weather wicked here too.

Congrats, I also have a 05 and love it. Of course the mod bug still bites hard even with a relatively new vehicle.
Put the GMM street version in that car and you will experience a whole different level of shifting fun. I did, and just recently put the HSV short shaft on it for really short throws.
Last year it threw down 402 hp to the wheels. This spring I'm hoping for 435-440 to the wheels.
This level of power and comfort while still getting 25mpg on the highway are amazing.
