Verdoro Green was Pontiac's Flagship color for 69. That's why you see so many.
Color change to an 1968 factory color wouldn't hurt the value as much as if you change to Different mfg color.

After I painted mine a friend came over and asked what my wife thought about it. All I said was "I was suppose to ask her?" She's not a car person! I think she knew I was painting it when I started sanding and stripping it down.

I painted and made mine the car I always wanted. 69 CR, 400/4speed GTO. But then I plan on driving mine. Only problem with CR is you can't hide like you can with Mayfield Maze from local law enforcement. Kinda sticks out!

Gotta due what makes you happy.

I do not like green colors as a rule (love blues-maybe cause the sky is blue on a beutiful day) if anything was green in my house i'd be tired of it in a week. But I have a Linden Green 67 GTO and love it. Maybe verado green is the right green for you. Johnney Lightning Classic Gold Car 400ho 4 speed bench seat with red lines and dog dish hubcaps KEWL

I like Verdoro green, so my recommendation is to keep it that color.

HOWEVER, if you are seriously thinking about Aleutian Blue, may I suggest another option?
My 68 was originally Nordic Blue with a Pearl Parchment interior and Ivory vinyl top. I went with the original color scheme, but I wasn't sure how it would look until I saw the paint on the car. You hardly EVER see Nordic Blue cars...it's another "Blue" to consider:

Default keep the original color

One more opinion: I like keeping the car's original color. I agree with OP's previous comment about seeing the old color on various parts of the body, when the paint job is not a frame-off. My car has been repainted twice. Once by a previous owner, and once by me about 25 years ago (its showing its age). Neither of the paint jobs were frame off, but the color was not changed (1966 Barrier Blue). I still have original paint on the door jambs and on the underside of the trunk deck. If your car still has this, it would be one more reason to repaint with the original color, IMO.

Personally I'd not paint a car VD green. Not a fan of it. My 68 was that color and I've looked at several shades of it and I don't like it at all.
Nightshade's a lot better color IMO.
Personally I prefer the odd colors. If I'd have ordered one it probably would've been Mayfair Maize or Gold with a black painted top.

Paint it what color YOU want. YOU have to live with it and care for it. As Long as it's not resale red I'm good with it.

I know I'm getting weak in the knees looking at all these beautiful GTO's.

Does anyone else ever get that way .... I mean literally, kinda of like butterflies in your stomach when you see a beautiful GTO?

Is there something wrong with me? (Something additional I mean).

Sweet car jmt455. Is that the original color combo?

This was what I was originally after. I have a big 24x36 poster of this hanging in my office. I have the redlines and planned on adding the rally stripe.

I've seen some fresh Verdoro Green cars that really pop and others that look flat. I suppose getting the mix right is also a concern of mine. I really want something deep that looks great in the sun. I like the way Aleutian changes depending on the light.

Yes, it's the original combo. Sold the car last fall; I think it is in Austria now.

Thumbs up Verdoro Green - another vote

Lots of good points made so far. I am not a Verdoro Green fan, however I do think keeping any car painted it's original color has merit. I know alot of the drivetrain is not original however you do have the original block. The block and factory color seem to be the biggest stumbling blocks from cars realizing their top dollar when they get sold. Everyone points to those two things right away.

As far as the repaint goes, you should paint it what you like since it is your car. I would suggest that since you do like Verdoro Green and that is the factory color it makes sense to keep it's as born Green hue. The wife is not a car gal, so he will get over the green. I bet as long as your happy, she will be ok with it too. Verdoro Green does look great when fresh and it was a Pontiac only color.

The last point I want to make is that alot of Verdoro Green cars are not Green anymore! I do not see very many Verdoro cars out and around at shows. Granted I don't look at every cowl tag but if I did I bet I would see plenty of green cars Incognito.

I own two Verdoro Green cars. One is a '69 RAIV 4-spd GTO that came with a Parchment interior. That car will go back Verdoro Green to keep it's pedigree intact.

The second one is a non-numbers matching GTO originally verdoro green, black cordova top, parchment interior automatic A/C. I bastardized it before I knew any better. Here she is before and after:

If it were me, I'd be counting my blessings that it didn't come in Linden green like my Firebird (sorry, beemergary). Being 60 years old and having no desire to sell it in the future I am repainting it Silver Glaze, which is period-correct and awesome-looking to boot. It's all in what pleases you and what you plan to do with the car in the future.

I kind of like Linden Green. It looks a little like the color of a hospital gown, but it beats Expresso Brown.

Still not sure which direction I'm going at this point, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't regret repainting it Verdoro while it's possible I might regret a color change down the road. I'll probably spray a couple of test panels with my current color candidates to help make up my mind.

I know from past experience that whenever I did a color change I would now and then see that little bit of original color somewhere on the car while I was working on it .... and it would make me feel cheap, dirty and ashamed .... like a college girl walking home from a stranger's house on Sunday morning.

My opinion is the fact that you are asking the question at all means you should keep it original.
My own view is that whoever owns the car can do whatever he/she wants to if it makes that person happy, to heck with everyone else.

I recently was in the same situation you are in. I went with the original color, most of the guys in the shop wanted to go a different color but change their minds after it was painted. My biggest concern was getting the right Verdoro green (68/69/70) Next to reassemble everything. Good Luck Tom

The walk of shame! LOL.

A former room mate of mine had a very canny strategy... get buzzed at home, then go to the bar at 1:00 to see who was still left and take it from there.

The other room mates would usually be sitting on the porch for some wake-n-bake... and then the errant lass would have to walk by, or in the height of embarrassment, wait there for a ride.

One of them was my sophomore dorm suite mate's ex- ... yes, she did want to crawl in a hole and pull it in after.

Sort of a different topic, but looking around for a shop to paint the car has definitely been enlightening. I've seen about 5 shops and have had estimates between $5500 and $10k presuming I deliver the car disassembled and have it redone in Verdoro.

I'm a little conflicted because I have pretty good confidence in the lowest bidder's work, and he has a great reputation, but his bid seems too low for what I'm expecting. I returned with the partially stripped car today to show him some old repairs I uncovered and the replacement panels I bought. He stood firm on his quote.

I have a couple more shops I want to take a look at. In the mean time I'll continue prepping the car.

Salem, do you have more pics of your car? It looks great!

From what I've seen in the past ....price is absolutely no indicator of the potential quality of a shops paint work (within reason of course). I worked for a guy out in the boonies, with a shop that looked like a junkyard. He did beautiful driver quaility paint jobs for very reasonable money (assuming he didn't have to do a ton of bodywork).

I've seen modern, clean, collision repair shops that will quote you $12k just to get rid of you because they don't want to do the work. And if they do, all you will get it a driver quality bc/cc paint job like they'd do on any Honda Civic.

Show quality paint is a whole nother thing ....a thing I don't know much about except that it's very labor intensive, very expensive, and I have no interest in that kind of paint.
