Between my 68 Hardtop RAII tribute, and my brother's 68 Conv, we'll sit back and let others get on it.

The VIN is too low for an original Ram2 car
But it could still be a Ram1 car If he could state the build date from trim tag - that would help real quick. Needs to be at least 05C or later |

If the VIN listed above is for sure correct for that car there is NO WAY it is a RAII. My Baltimore built RAI convertible VIN is 242678B111772 built 02A, so that would put this cars build date around the last week ao January 68.

Correct, my RAII is one of the earliest on the RAII roll call and its build date is 05C. So all we know for sure is the car has 96 heads and what appear to be correct RA manifolds and RA pans. Would be nice if it had a 2506 block that might be numbers matching for another car out there, or maybe it was originally a RAI car that someone added the round ports to? |

So many things not right for that car. Missing entire thermo vacum switch and hoses, used for all 68 cars (RA II cars had their own specific set up). Fan is not correct for RA II (used a 4 blade fan). Air cleaner lid is wrong.
My 05D built RA II 4 speed (on list and PHS documented) did not have rally gauges or a tach. There is a real documented RA II GTO 4 speed convertible being offered at Barret Jackson in March. It is on the list and also has PHS documentation. It will be interesting to see if the bidders there even understand what it is. Below is a shot of the engine in Mattisons RA II car that sold at BJ in 2016. Also are two pictures of the Verdo Green convertible that will be at BJ this March. So did it ever turn out to be a real R/A Car? Its a no brainer to spend the $50-$75 (or however it is now) on the PHS. that small investment is worth so many multiples of that if its the real deal.
When I bought my 68 it had evidence of screws on the upper pan location. could even see where the pan was & cut out scoops. Got really excited until I got the PHS docs. So many things can happen to these cars in 50+ years. well closer to 30+ years when I bought mine,

So true. Reminds me of a buddy and his cars. He had a very nice 67 R/T Coronet with the 440, 4 speed and Dana rear. Wrecked the car and tried to fix it himself (high school age). The car had a kinked frame so instead of having it fixed professionally (no money), he found a 70 Roadrunner without an engine. It was a 383 car. He swapped his drivetrain into the Roadrunner. He got so many tickets he lost his license and the Roadrunner was showing some heavy wear and tear. So he bought a 6 cylinder Challenger, swapped the K member and put the 440, and 4 speed in that car. I helped him with that swap. Of course the pistol grip shifter original to the Coronet did not work well in the Challenger. You would hit your knuckles on the dash on a power shift!. But he lowered his insurance costs driving a 6 cylinder Challenger! LoL |

I had a 77 Cutlass Supreme in high school that had a V6 in it. Buckets seats, floor shift. sporty car with a turd for an engine. Swapped it out for a 455 & paid the insurance of a V6. That was waaaay more important back then. No question about it. Not that the car would have collectible today, but that same thing happened to SS camaros, GTO's & all of today's collectibles. We cringe today, but that's just what is was & why all these number matching survivors are so stinking desirable today.

A lot of cars get the 68 R/A upgrade with pans in modern times.
Its easy to install, affordable, and 1 click away in availability. But when you have Ram2 Heads AND Ram2 Exhaust Manifolds on your car you can no longer claim "I am not a numbers guy - i dont do numbers" He knows some damm numbers - make no mistake about it. Thats just a phishing expedition pretending to be a hay-seed |
