My local glass was the 1st place I checked,,,nada. Then searched vendors that offer that all clear A body windshield,,,,all saying more should be here mid January. I can wait but didn't know if the tinted would be the way to go or wait for the clear.

If originality isn't important, I wouldn't even consider using a clear windshield. Green tinted/shaded is so much better. It's a better view looking through it, and it looks upscale on the car.

I just had a new windshield installed in a 72 442 mid summer. Had the antenna, etc. It was a Fuyao, and offshore made. And to our surprise, about 1/8" narrower on every side. Not enough to cause a leak (plenty of overlap), but enough to notice for sure. Something to keep in mind. Other than the smaller dimensions, it was otherwise fine and thickness was the same. The narrower width/height wasn't visible since the trim covered it up.

Finally ordered a windshield,,went through my local glass company that carrys pilkington brand which I guess is one of the best around. Its the pilkington classic series 724gs6. Green tinted with blueish visor tinted. Kind of pricey.

Just buying the gs6 windshield outright was 325.00 vs others ( not as good?)at 200.00+. Rear window (db04001) by pilkington classic is 400.00 . Summit racing wants 600.00+ for the same rear glass. Summit wants 289.00 for same front windshield but with shipping its more than my local glass co. I guess pilkington also has a triplex which was like 220.00 but the local glass said they had some complaints about fit. Personally I wouldn't know obviously.

Beware cheap Chinese glass.

The pitting comes back so fast it'll make your head spin.

Yes that's what the concensense seems to be. Overall I read that the pilkington glass is the way to go with what's out there.

I need to go back and see what my glass cost for the A body, I did get it all via Ames. I think when I was shopping I did see a wide range of costs, and looks like I ended up with a $200 windshield, and a $250 rear glass.

The were packaged properly and fit well, have heard some are a hair too small, moving the glass/body lip to a narrow margin. Like, the glass being smaller, only allows about a 1/4-1/3 of an inch contact, that was the word-of-mount. Mine have like 3/4-1" contact area.

Took longer than expected but finally got the windshield today. Took some thickness measurements. Original is .273 thick and the new pilkington classic is .246 thick. Will the difference mess with the stainless trim sitting tight against the glass? Rear window is .230 thick.

Is that stamp on the new glass or is that a pic of your old glass stamp?

Both pictures are of the new glass. The new stamp is not very clear to read. I guess pilkington bought LOF years ago. Im glad I didnt request a date coded stamp,,dont think youd be able read it anyways. I called and asked how much longer and 2 days later it showed up. I guess the windshields have been thinner for years and most people I guess just use a little thicker butyl tape to make up for the thinner glass.
