I dont know where that picture was taken, I will have to ask my folks. Neat idea retaking the picture.
Thanks everyone for your comments.

Ya know Greg, the top was not to bad at all. Some pitting but nothing that required replacement. I very carefully hit it with sand to make sure it was very clean.
The metel that needed replaced was both quarters, both lower cowels, 3 piece trunk, inner and outer wheel wells and back panel between window and decklid.

Here is a shot of the body after I put it in exopy and joined it with frame of the 69 Lemans I parted. The frame in the foreground has been blasted and powder coated. Went with Inline tube SS brake and fuel lines. The wheels are just for rolling around not the finished ones.

Here we have aligned the doors and deck lid with the original quarters before we cut them off.

Here is the first quarter we cut off. Trunk has been already been replaced in this photo. Thats Mike, Mike PY board.

This is the best post this 68-69 forum has seen in quite some
time! I am really enjoying the pics....keep them coming! The original owner of my
car which I've owned since 1972 was also in his fifties and traded in his 66 GTO
hardtop to buy the 69 convertible I still own.

One question I have about the picture of the green GTO.......was the car a used
car at the time? I couldn't help noticing the white lettered goodyears on the car,
which is something everyone claims you couldn't get from the factory on a 69 GTO, even though you could order them on Chevrolets. I've always wondered if they were
available late in the model year......do you think the green car was built with white lettered
tires?

Good question. I know they bought it new in Beaverton Oregon and the picture looks like it was taken in California. I will ask my folks tonight about it and post back.

So I talked to the folks tonight and the green 69 did NOT come with the Goodyears. Here is a photo of the car with the redlines it came with. Thats me in the blue coat. Photo quality is lame as I took a picture of a projection from a slide. I got some other good shots on slides and I am going to get them professionally transfered. More to come.

Here is a shot of the wheel that was in my Grandmas trunk.

Here is a picture of my sister and the green 69. This was taken in May of 73. My Dad backed over my younger brother with this car when he was 2 braking both of his legs!!!! I think thats why my sister might be smilling.

I can only imagine how many people asked my Grandma to sell her car to them. She was constintally telling me of people aproaching her wanting to buy her car. She loved that car so much none of them ever had a chance of getting her Goat! Gas, tires and oil she would always say.
At one point she road the bus to work, she worked for the forest service in her later years. She told the bus driver with pride that she owned a GTO. That bus driver tried for years to get that car from her. She really enjoyed when someone wanted to by her car, I think it validated what she already knew, she had an awesome car!!!
I was never really concerned about all the people wanting her car, I new she would NEVER sell it. Good thing I was right.

Default Winter Rats

In the years 1976-1978 I didn't have to drive my BEST GTO in the winter.
I had a red 68 and a blue 69 at the time.
The 68 was my Winter RAT and the 69 was my summer car.
At the time the cars were lees than 10 years old and it was easy to just go and buy another one.

Neat picture. Is the blue 69 a special order paint. The white endura bumper makes me think so or maybe there is some other reason.
