No 'Safari' badge on any 1966 wagons. Never seen anything in any marketing stuff or whatever to explain it. I just assumed that it had something to do with targeting the younger set they were pushing so hard to sell to. They had a Safari magazine they published, and I am not sure if that included '66 and beyond or not. I have never looked into it, but it would be interesting to know if they still had it and not the car.
I don't know much about '67 & up, but I thought I saw them with 'Safari' badges. Though I can not find one now!

For 1967 the Safari name reappeared. But only on the new Executive Safari and on one of the Tempest wagons.
Catalina, Bonneville were, as in 1966, called station wagon only. I haven't made any major research but I think that the Safari badge only came with the wagons that had the side panel wood trim. And it seems that it goes for the 1968-69 wagons as well. Here's a link to the 1967 wagons only full color brochure. Worth taking a look at, if you have missed it: http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/stati.../dirindex.html Buick called some of their wagons "Estate Car". Well, here's a Pontiac Estate

That's the Pontiac equivalent of the C-130 over the Shenandoah Valley.

'63 Cat
Here's an update to Post #892 (p. 45) from 10/6/13:
Quote:
Long-story-short, in March I sold the Cat I had bought and purchased my friend's race car (pictures below). In a previous incarnation: Car at time of purchase: In its new "warpaint" On a separate note, I have been trying to contact the eventual buyer of the 3-speed '63 Cat that I sold in March. I have a copy of the original window sticker that I would be glad to pass along to them. If you own or know of this car, please email me.

My 63 BonneSW from the Ebay ad where I found it
I was searching thru some of my PHS documents this morning to respond to a 421 HO production # question on another thread. This is the picture of my 63 BonneSW as it appeared on Ebay in 2000. Walter Schroeder (original owner) was a car nut like all of us ...he researched all available equipment available in early 1963 and checked all the boxes we wish we could today ...421 HO, Auto, Console, Buckets, PW, PVents, AC, Speedwarning, Split Back Seat, Magic Cruise, Tilt, TI, Underhood Light, 8 Lugs, Tail Gate Window&Side Window Bug Screens, Cargo Lock, Luggage Rack, etc ... and ....radio delete.
When he died, his widow Giesel contacted a local man in Rosamond, CA to help her sell all of Walters Cars and equipment. The 63 BonneSW was nicknamed "Baby" (etched on keys). It sat as pictured under a small tree on the 1950's motel property they owned since it last drove in 1971. They had traveled back to Austria that year and left "Baby" with someone they knew in town. That unknown to me person used and maybe abused "Baby" a little too much during the Schroeder's absence. The long straight roads in the California Desert must have been too tempting to that caretaker ...I'm sure "Baby's" horses were let loose that summer. Very soon after Walter returned the engine was removed due to a bad knock (as relayed to me by Giesel when I purchased the car from the local seller). The car sat in this condition until I found and moved "Baby" to Virginia. :-) The Ebay ad read something like: "1963 Pontiac Station Wagon for sale" I saw it was a Bonneville and had 421 emblems on the front fender ....I had to have it !! :-)
