Yeah I saw your composite log just now. Looks great. If you do have any stumbles/sync loss, just turn on noise filtering and hopefully you're good to go. I'll take a look at that file now.
Another thing to be mindful of later on when the car is driving and you're tuning it. The spark latency value may need tweaking if you're running 8x coils like LS coils. I found that I was getting around 1deg per 1000rpm ignition retard so run 120uS offset which fixed it right up! Thanks for the heads up on that. I had it up to 3000 rpms, and it was accurate to that point. I won't Rev it much higher than that unloaded. Hopefully I can find the timing in a log under load up to red line and see how it's doing.

Went for about a 30 minute test drive tonight, on a VERY basic timing map. My helper (youngest girl) manning the laptop. Through town at 0-40 mph, brief stint on a nearby hwy at 55-60, some moderate acceleration. No issues, timing always followed the map. We made a few very minor tweaks, nothing drastic. No sync issues, fires up immediately. It's early on yet, but so far so good.

Thanks Kris. Looking forward to having the complete package. Hopefully done with that part by June. After that, the Texas heat zaps my desire to sweat in the garage... Will keep this post updated as progress happens.

Nice work Marv & Scott, clean installs for sure!
I was going to go DIS, still may later, and was looking at doing brackets on the back of the heads, and running the wires on the sides of the heads. Was hoping to use 2 or 4 tower coils, which would make the install more compact. A simple stand off bracket with thin isolators should work, only factor is heat, which can cause coils to fail prematurely. Space is a premium back there, but initial measurements showed some would fit. Could potentially do a bracket on the back of the valve cover too, but again, would need to see. I wanted to move forward with the project, so skipped DIS for now, but will probably revisit it soon. I spent enough time on the intake and wiring that it impacted my personal timeline. .

Drilled and tapped the hole for the IAT sensor. Good thing I kept this old dominator air cleaner base I guess, since it fits this accufab throttle body perfectly. Should work ok in this spot I think. And as a bonus, it's some kind of phenolic material, so it shouldn't heat soak too much. Also soldered together the leads/pigtails for the injectors. I think the only thing I lack to start setting up sequential fuel is welding the new o2 sensor bung in. Maybe Sunday... It's a real shame that FAST uses a different height bung, I already have that one installed. Oh well.

Started on fuel
So Sunday I got the new O2 sensor bung installed and the MS3 is reading it. As a bonus, the O2 sensor for the FAST system is still reading as well, so I could verify that the readings make sense by comparison. Last night/ this morning I began installing the hardware for the fuel side. Had a few things that I was worried about fit on. Primarily throttle linkage to rail clearance, and to a lesser extent fuel line routing. I had only one minor issue which was easily addressed: the accufab throttle body has primary and secondary throttle adjustment screws, which is very handy (more on that later), but the nuts that lock the screws were lightly interfering. Since I'm using a 1 inch phenolic spacer, it was easy to add a little clearance in those 2 small spots. The throttle linkage is fine, as will be the fuel lines.
Since the throttle body has 2 adjustments, I elected to use the secondary for idle air adjustment. I believe that will allow tuning the IAC/throttle air balance without having to reset the tps position every time an adjustment is made. Which hopefully won't be often after everything is right. But this was a pain for me with the FAST system, so I'm happy to have a better alternative. Will continue to post progress as it happens. I'm not sure how helpful this info is, but I believe as time goes on, more folks will eventually move this direction, generally. I realize there are many ways to do this kind of project, and mine is just one. And I cannot for the life of me figure out why my pictures have stopped appearing in the correct orientation, nor do I know how to fix it...

Up and running on sequential spark and fuel
Fired the engine on fuel and spark today for the first time. Fired right up. It wasn't perfect, but it's dialed in where it will idle pretty well, and did a little tweaking on the light throttle, stationary. No test drive yet. Hopefully Sunday I can drive it and turn the VE Analyze Live loose on it to speed up the process. Only one hiccup, and it was self inflicted. I'm new at this... I wanted to multiply in a 4 cell area and accidentally used the equal sign, which instead of reducing the number by a small percentage, I reduced it to a very small number. This created a HUGE surge! I figured it out fairly quickly thankfully. Will report back as progress happens.

They did not a few years ago. But new management. There were too many storms on the radar between here and there so I did not go.
Usually Sealy is kind of lenient. If the weather ever holds the West Houston Muscle group has one planned in August. Their spring Sat nights were rained out.

So I did get a little time, and some decent weather today and got in a test drive. I made about a 20 mile round trip, give or take, through town to the highway, over a steep bridge, and back. The engine ran well in all conditions, whether stop and go traffic, cruising from 55-70 mph, up or down the steep grade. I do have some areas that need work, in other words, not perfect, but absolutely driveable, and very good in most instances. Acceleration enrichment needs some tweaking. It's a little much down low, if I didn't have the drag radials, it would probably roast the tires just taking off. It's fun, but a little aggressive. At 55 in high gear, the acceleration enrichment is not quite enough, a slight flat spot. I have no doubt it can be made right, this ecu has vast adjustability for acceleration enrichment, as it does for most things. That is both a plus and a minus for someone inexperienced like me. The other area that isn't perfect yet is idle, but it's decent, just not perfect. I think I don't yet quite understand all the ways that all the settings interact with each other, but I believe I will be able to get there. Honestly, I'm impressed at how close it is to right on the first test drive. I will update this thread again when I make more progress. And I will try at some point soon to summarize this experience, in the hopes that it will help someone who's considering a project like this.

Lemme see if I've got this straight: The cam sensor is made so it shows On or Off for half its rotation.
The ECU reads it, compares the On or Off to the crank sensor's position, then determines whether to fire the ignition (Fire/Power stroke) or not (Intake stroke)- Do I have that right? Since it knows what the crank and cam are doing, it can calculate where the other cylinders are, relative to the crank's position. Do I have that right? Now, if I have the above correct, the cam sensor 'should' be able to be positioned so it reads "On" somewhere in the crank's 35* ATDC to 55* BTDC range-- Is that correct? I'm just trying to make sure I'm understanding this correctly... I want to make a cam sensor, but I'm not positive about everything yet. I was looking at an old Mallory Unilite as a possible conversion, but I also considered looking at Ford or Buick cam sensors- they appear to be modified distributor/oil pump drives.

You've got it essentially right. But make sure whatever ecu you have in mind offers use of this "polled" logic as MS does. Otherwise you may need a single point timed to #1 TDC.

Yeah, and it supposedly syncs up faster using polled. I have no experience to compare against, but it syncs up very quickly, and hasn't had any sync loss issues. I think you will be happy with the pro ultimate. It is feature packed for sure.
The manual is worth downloading and reading. It's 300 plus pages, but it's very informative. It may help you decide on some other hardware issues after you see the options, and how things work. It's probably the best written manual for any high performance product I've ever used. And I'm getting long in the tooth, and been messing with cars since I was old enough to drive, or a little before...
