Here is another shot from when I looked at the car a year or so ago. At the time, the car needed the engine rebuilt as it would lose oil pressure without notice. Probably an oil pump check valve issue. Hopefully that has been attended to.

It is one of the fluted black screw-on knobs which do have a different thread taper than the chrome knobs that used the center set screw. My December 1971 built 72 Formula had that black clock set knob.

The knob could have been replaced since they do come off but you are correct in the fact a 73 would be chrome in appearance. Pretty cool car and hope if finds its way to a good home and owner.

For archival purposes, and in case anyone missed it in the general 70-73 threads :

The Red 73 SD Test Car used in several magazine tests of the day has been found and documented. Turned up in Australia - with Right hand drive conversion.
SD engine is gone. Car is still solid and otherwise held up pretty well overall for a car that had no special treatment and an unknown pedigree.

It is a "Y" code car, btw
Pretty interesting ordeal

Yep,

I forgot about those pictures.....remember seeing them...

Pergande had a red 73 SD auto too... I don't think that one was ever wrecked.
Board member here owns the red car now, it is a real nice car.

Yep. Sitting forlornly in Gay Pontiac's (Dickinson, TX) body shop.

I can't recall if they repaired it and it later went to Sam Red for the resto and show paint, or if Sam did the entire job . . .

As far as I know Mike's red SD was never wrecked, EB.

Considering how bad the Brewster car looked in those old pics, it sure turned out nice . . .

Here are some "back in the day" shots of Mike's Buc Red car. Gotta dig those "Formula 1 Super Stock" tennies, and Mike's 'do as well!

Correct Lloyd, that car never got damaged and still retains its original sheet metal today. The engine bay was covered with WD40 or something which was a pain in the @ss to remove however it probably saved allot of corrosion in the long run.
The car rarely see the light of day now a days and its to bad since it is a pretty darn nice ride.
