Thank you for that link. I read every word and now that I am full of knowledge so I need to do a thorough inspection of my drums and rims.

Cleaned up the Tri-Power intake to find the numbers and it is a 1959 intake. No numbers on the carbs but the linkage and the vacuum system looks to be 59-60. So, it's not likely that this was added when the car was new. I guess it is possible that a dealer could have installed it from old inventory but only the original owner could shine the lite on that one.

As for the 8 lug wheels. I inspected them and they don't look to have many miles on them. The drums have minimal shoe surface marks, the steel sleeves look firmly in place and the aluminum looks fantastic (other then a few nicks from being moved around in storage for 40 plus years).

A late 59 casting date would still be for a 60 car. How close is it to the engine casting date? Of course stuff in the trunk might also mean the previous owner was trying to accumulate things to be installed later.

That is a good point, thanks. I'll have to find the casting dates and see what they are.

The titles to both cars came in the mail. HOORAY!

I didn't want to title both cars but the DMV strong armed me into doing the Gray car because I had all the correct paperwork for that one and I had nothing for the Red one. It cost me $230.00 in back taxes and all the paperwork for both cars so it was not that bad.

Finally have time to play with the cars a bit. Started both cars.

Grey purrrrssss. Red chugs. Red has crack in exhaust heat valve. Both blew cloud of rust out the tail pipe.

Red has 120 - 150 compression. Very exited to get red going again. I have the brake system parts and seals ready to rework. Need to drop the gas tank and send out the radiator, etc...

Dropped both gas tanks. Both have 35 year old gas that has gone so thick and dark it looks like automatic trans fluid. But the smell... WOW!

I cracked open the red cars engine and it looks pretty good but I have decided to do a complete rebuild. Part of the front cam bearing is sticking out like a silver dime. The timing chain is very loose and the old oil on the oil plug was silver metal flake. The water jackets have heavy scale and the water pump has large build up of rust. I hope this thing was not left with water because it has a water line of rust but then it's like the water suddenly vanished. Crack? Hope not. Maybe freeze plug.

I'd post photos but not much to see but years of dirty oil buildup.

Thanks. I'll get in a few hours a week so it will be slow but rewarding.

I found the vin number on the lower front of the block. Number matches!

Also found what looks like a rusty - leaky freeze plug. Hope that's how the water escaped... No water in the oil !!!
