Does anyone know if a sport coupe post door can be converted in to a hardtop door?

There are differences in the door shells (inner structures) where the post frame attaches. Also you'll find the door skins differ in shape where the post window frame meets the skin. Window regulators are the same. I would say it can be converted if a hardtop donor door has good metal in those areas for the conversion.

As a post coupe owner, I think a solid post coupe door should be left intact and saved for a post coupe owner who is in need. They're quite difficult to find in decent shape these days, whereas regular hardtop doors are much more plentiful and there are even re-pops available if it comes down to it.

On one hand, you've got a solid door, but on the other... you still have to convert it. I'd offer it up as a trade first - if a post guy is willing to hunt down a comparable hardtop door for you, it's a win-win scenario for everybody.

I think I have a driver's side door for a hardtop/ convertible in my shop, but I am in southwest Georgia.

I know the post guys want to save these doors to use on post cars which is great if good doors are available for your hard top or convertible.

If you can find someone that needs the post doors and can trade for good doors that would be great.

Great doors are hard to find so I used post doors on a convertible for 67 many years ago. They were in great shape with no rust and I could not find convertible doors that were acceptable to use. On the post doors I had - I just removed the post frames from the doors and used the convertible door wing windows, hardware and convertible stainless. The convertible power windows and hardware worked fine. The door jamb where the window post frames came in is different. I don't remember exactly what I had to do to the doors to finish them. I know there was very minimal metal work- if any- that is seen when finished. I believe any metal work I did was not to the door skin except to fit the convertible stainless. I believe all modifications were under the stainless and was in the jamb and covered with felting and door jamb hardware.

If I can find them, I might have some pictures of the door jambs after I removed the window frames if you need me to.
