Get them to poke thru the firewall and pull em with some pliers.

Don't feel stoopit! The pins supplied with those are much harder (and thus brittle) compared to the originals...this is a common problem.

If using aftermarket ones , open the firewall holes up a bit , originals are a much better choice .

fire wall pad pins
Did you get the pins to hold? If not heres what I did, being my firewall was smoothed for the vintage air I wanted a less noticeable way to hold the pad in place, went to Lowes and bought plastic black push pins and plastic washers put the pins in from the outside an the washer from inside while the wife held the pin tight against the firewall looks perfect, need a picture let me know. jd grim 66 gto

The ones they sell/come with the kit are a different diameter for some reason..that is why they won't easily go in the original holes...so open up the original holes using a tapered reamer or use the original pins....I think the new pins are 0.030 oversize.

Are you using those crappy plastic pins? Throw them in the garbage and purchase the factory rubber ones.

Thanks, and I have the originals. Did you change out the rear window trim clips. I dont know the spacing, it looks like some are missing close to the bottom corners. Any input is appreciated.

I've heard folks putting the pins in the oven for a while and being able to push them through using a tool made from a piece of dowel with the end rounded.

Tried that the dowel pushed right though the plastic pins.

I seen a show on Speed where a guy machined his own tool for pushing in the crappy plastic plugs. It allowed him to use a hammer to beat them in.

Some reason heating them in the oven and using a wooden dowel worked for me. That was like 2 years ago, not sure if the pins are still the same though.
I filled all the holes on the LeMans (smoothed the firewall), and plan on using dynamat, so I won't have to worry about that again. .

I took a small long socket, an extension, a hammer and greeze and made the plastic ones work breaking two in the process. I will go with rubber ones in the future. Irgoatmike
