They're SBC intakes though, much easier to start with a Pontiac dual quad intake and bolt on the Holley base/top. We've just bought a Wenzler Gutsram tunnel ram to do just this. $325 without the dual carb top plate.

I agree, I just thought he wanted a fabricated intake.

Hogan's and Wilson, as well as other sheet metal intake fabbers will do one for you, pretty much anything you want. (hold on to your nads when the invoice is handed to you tho). You can base these off a proven tunnel ram design for your app.

A while ago, a guy that I believe is/was a member here, made a carbon fiber EFI intake for his 67 GTO build, and it was even covered in a couple car mags. That was in the late 90s/early 2000s even. That makes more sense to me, with determination, a DIY-er could do it at home in a garage.

I did hear rumors Holley was going to expand their' EFI intake line, to include traditional Pontiacs, but that had to have been at least 3-5 years ago, and still nothing.

Unless you are building something exotic for competition or drag week or something, or for show, there is enough off the shelf options to handle your EFI desires. At most, have a proven intake with bungs installed. Or at least that's how I am thinking. If it's straight out performance you want, intakes need to be modeled and tested (=money), and even then you may not see any gains over traditional configs. It may take 4, 5, or even 10 intakes to get to where you want to be.

There are individual components you can use that are off the shelf, somewhat mix & match, and still do stuff that most don't usually see (on a Pontiac). I went thru all the exotic desires, and dialed back to a more 'practical' approach on my latest project. Yes, I know, yawn/boring!

I applaud all the efforts folks are involved in, it's stuff like this that makes people go "I want that!", and manufacturers say "People want that, maybe we should pilot this..". The community needs more of this, but the market is small, and the community scares them away when they see people still using low-buck build and upgrade approaches.

HWYSTR455, how do you like the victor with the elbow? I heard you can get some distribution issues with an elbow. Have you tried a straight 4bbl throttle body to compare? I am thinking performance wise the victor prob makes sense compared to a DIY but wont look as cool

The elbow has a baffle in it to direct the air, kind of 'split' it, and aim it. It's just air, so I don't believe there will be a distribution problem.

You can run a typical 4 bbl throttle body if you want, I was considering that, and was going to use a blow-thru hat and air intake tube, but I took a shot at the elbow, and once I held it in my hand, realized it would work well.

You could even polish it some, port too if you like, but it's rated to flow more than I need right out of the box, so I left it.

It's almost ready to run, so in use experience will be shared on the build thread.

Here's a pic of the regular elbow, with the divider, but you get the idea.

Yeah, that was me. I designed it in AutoCad and made full-scale paper patterns from that. Plenum is built from a 2-piece female mold and the runners are made from male wax plugs which I carved/melted out afterwards. I gave the runners 10% taper because it seemed that's what typical tunnel rams had. I made the manifold with the longest/tallest runners that would fit under a 2nd gen F-body hood without mods with an eye towards building them for sale. Even bought an expensive Motec controller with wide-band lambda to help with developing a better fuel/ignition map that perhaps I could use to sell as a service. In the end I decided that the Pontiac market could never support a $5k EFI manifold (this was in 1998).

Yes Heinrich, that's what I was speaking of, and if you may recall, I reached out to you regarding, for my firebird project. I believe I still have the emails too. I had just done the Accel EFI training, and was looking for alternatives to simply having bungs installed on an off the shelf intake. I did better than half the '99 East Coast Power Tour in that setup, may even have sent you pics (I forget, had lots of things going on at the time)

Thank you for posting, enjoy seeing your car/setup every time I see it!

EDIT: Was it the TigerEFI that you were trying to market it as?

That is true, they just make you buy a **** ton now for a good deal. China used to be cheap even at a small amount. Jeff Palazzo had the stainless turbo header made there, he got 15 or 20 sets. He sold out of them but was selling them for $550.00. When he went to do a second run, they wanted a huge commitment, he was afraid to invest.

No, Tiger EFI was Jack Blum and Bill Bauer Jr trying to market their sheet metal EFI intake. Their prototype worked OK, but I don't think they ever made a 2nd one.

Yeah, I dug a little after I posted, realized it was Jack Blum that did the TigerEFI. Looking at it, it didn't appear to have a very smooth plenum, sure yours flows better.
