Screwy...
Hi fellas
I just installed my new headlites but one is cockeyed. It is aimed straight but way too lo. If I adjust the top screw it will go lower but not higher... Just turns and turns somewhat loosely compared to the other lite. Do I have to replace the adjuster and if so where to get? Thanks! Note: I adjusted them both lo so at least they match and the hi beams work pretty good. Sent from my Surface Duo using Tapatalk

Sounds like the plastic socket for the adjuster screw is stripped out. Check Ames for possible availability.

The adjustment screw could also have popped out of the bucket recess, or the adjuster broke away from the mount.
The quality of the repop adjusters are poor IMO, they are brittle, cheap, and fail often, if they don't break upon install. I suggested getting spares. Actually, you may want to consider rebuilding the whole bucket assembly, since you could end up chasing parts as they break while fixing. There are nubs on the back of the bulbs that fit into recesses in the bucket, those have to be lined up too. Some replacement bulbs don't have the nubs in the correct location, just to add to the problem(s). .

I checked with the headlite guy and his opinion was they were already lined up correctly (even tho I can crank on the driver's side screw to no end feeling like it's stripped).
He figures my LED low beam is insufficient and tried to upsell me on another pair. I think I'm going to live with these headlites as I can't afford to replace them and overpaid in the first place. The hi-beams are WAY better than what I had however so that is a plus.

As a reminder, the driver side bulb is supposed to be aimed slightly lower than the passenger side bulb as a curtesy to oncoming traffic.

And the bulb is properly clocked in the housing? Some have adjustable sleeves.

As per Virginia law headlights were checked for alignment as part of passing the inspection. "As a reminder, the driver side bulb is supposed to be aimed slightly lower than the passenger side bulb as a curtesy to oncoming traffic." However in this day and age where hundreds of thousands of people install extra bright illegal headlights in their jacked up mall crawlers it's a moot point. There is no courtesy out there anymore.

If you can turn the adjustment screw and it never stops, the adjustment screw/insert/nut is stripped out, or it popped out of the core support. Like I mentioned before, they fail often, even new ones. I literally have bags of them, that's how many fail for me. One good pothole and boom, done.
Bottoming one out and if you keep turning, boom, done. The pocket that has the U slot that the screw head groove goes in can also over time get wobbed out, and slip out of the slot. That can happen too if you don't adjust the other adjuster a little if you crank one past a certain point. I was tempted at one point to even try using a different adjuster setup, was sick of constantly replacing the adjusters. But at some point, the set I have in 3 cars now are holding up, so... Virginia has pretty good roads, and most don't have crowns anymore. Not sure how much that could impact headlight adjustment but I no longer compensate when having front end alignments done. Have done that for years now. .
