It's been a busy month, but I addressed the issues I mentioned in my previous post, and drove the car another hundred miles. She still runs good.

I did hear a squeak pulling into the driveway, and realized I did not grease the suspension when I installed it. What are folks using these days for that application? The grease in my gun would work I guess, but it's at least 20 years old--maybe 30, and I have no idea what it is.

I think I'm also going to paint the bottom of the front bumper lip black. I'm not sure if this is correct or not, but I think they look better that way. I forgot to ask Randy to do it when he painted the car.

I use the heavy duty red chassis grease, commercial/fleet valvoline stuff, works really good. There's other brands but the valvoline is easy to find. I think the last tube I got was from Tractor Supply, but not sure.

It flows really easy, if you have a pump gun it's easier to pump in. Wipes off pretty clean too, and doesn't end up all over everything. Well, not as easily anyway.

Yeah, I painted my bumper lip black on the bird, IMO, it does look better. Lighter body colors it has a more dramatic effect, so it kind of depends. I personally don't care for the look of the bumper bolts down there, otherwise I might not care, haven't thought about it in a while.

Hi Jeff, looking great!
Yes, from the factory the bottom vertical flange of the front bumper would have been black. The "lumps" on the bottom of the front valance that I circled in the pic were also painted black.

Thanks Keith. These things are going on my to do list!

But I haven’t had any luck finding a photo of an original valence to see how the lumps on the bottom were done. Does anyone have a photo they could share or point me to a thread?

Maybe it's a by-plant thing, or mid-year change is what I'm thinking. But don't know for sure.

I've had a couple people ask about the Bowler shifter I use with the T56 Magnum, and how it addresses the tendency of shifters on this transmission to develop leaks, especially when mounted in the forward position of the rear compartment (which locates the shifter directly above a big gear in the trans). The original Tremec shifter (and variants) use a rubber boot to seal the fluid, and over time, the boot deforms or tears, resulting in fluid making its way up through the shifter stub. The Bowler design uses a polymer ball that's pressed onto the shifter stub, which sits on an o-ring. The ball-stub assembly is capped with a couple pieces that keep the ball pressed to the o-ring. With mine in the forward position, it still leaked a little, so they built one using a special silicone to seal the ball so that nothing can flow through it. So far so good!

The squeak I mentioned in a previous post turned out to be the hood latch pull rubbing against the bracket attached to the core support. The little plastic grommet cracked and fell out of the hole in the bracket. As shown in the photo, I was able to fit the grommet back into the hole, but it's brittle and fits loosely, so I suspect it won't hold up. I found a couple brackets with these grommets in my pile of spare parts, but these grommets appear to be similar in condition. I could glue it I guess, but before I go there, thought I should check to see if these are available anywhere (or perhaps there's another good solution).
