496xxx EUN probably translates to summer 71 casting date given the lowish production that model year (586k including sixes and Ventura 307 chebbies) but the VIN sequence is perhaps more indicative of earlier assembly. Could home plant production really be just half of say 68-69 numbers?

WOW!

That is a 455 HO with round port heads and HO intake.

Are you guys talking about the 69 Bird in Kansas for 15.5k with 350 and 4spd ?
It shows chrome valve covers and red plug wires
.... I can't determine which car it is with the discovered 455HoHoHo

This one. I agree the pic on the car is chrome valve covers. Good catch, because the pics he sent me looked like the original unmolested covers. Maybe he switched them thinking it would look cool? I dunno? If anyone lives in Kansas that would be worth a 20 min drive. Worth noting is they listed this as a 454. I'm the one who told him it was a Pontiac engine. One more thing, can anyone here pull the PHS to see how rare this car is/was or whether it exists still? If it's a GTO, what are the odds it's a Judge's engine?

Based on my comments above about VIN and EUN I suspect the engine was much too late to have gone into a judge (which got the axe mid season).

So you think it's a Trans Am?

Show it was on ebay in 2011.

Know where the engine is.

Come to think of it, this car might have belong to someone here back in 2007 or so?

For Real !
John has his files dialed in Tight !
Can tell that was a screenshot I pulled and posted on here , there was a thread at the time in the 70-72 section about this car while it was on eBay.
My files are frozen and I don't have them categorized by VIN anyway. Highly doubtfuI i would have ever put the two together even if my files weren't frozen.

Fantastic workmanship John !!!!!!!!!

The car was in pretty decent overall shape if I remember correctly ,, but no engine.
Was also a former PMD Company Car
Sold for a reasonable price on eBay too, at the time.

With the crazy luck on the engine , the Bird needs the PHS run on it.
Maybe it'll be a RamAir4 car

If the original 455HO Qjet is still in their hands, its worth a couple of big bucks too

This is so wild
The heading in the URL of the Invoice picture says No Motor
and I thought it was engineless too.

But that is the same EUN as in the picture that Thews posted.
So someone bought the convertible to use the engine in a 69 Bird project ?

Better bet is the late '71 production 455HO engine was misappropriated from a shop or storage, then possibly sold. Anyone that's going to step up & pay for a VERY desirable roundport convertible is not going to sell off its original engine.

As far as the '69 Bird project goes, I'd be highly suspicious to what's under the quickly sprayed grey primer. Poor quality metal & body work, along with substandard prep are par for the course on such presentations.

Interesting. How much did the convertible sell for and was it restorable? I couldn’t anything clearly on the thumbnail pic.

Buck, right click on the thumbnail and open it in a new tab.

EDIT: Forget that, I forgot PY cuts resolution a bunch.

Try this: LeMans on ebay

I tried doing a search for the thread where the 71 Convertible was discussed while it was on eBay.
I'm not real good at that and keep getting distracted reading some of the other hits that come up on the search.
Had to stop.

Might try again some other time by just rolling back through all my posts until they hit Dec 2011.
ugh

This is a weird mess

It turns to fuzz when I expand it also.
Can't make out anything really , but I'm using a tablet now.

I was thinking it went for under 10k back then
and could be wrong now

Thanks John.
I definitely remember a discussion on here when it was on eBay.
The Rosewood color made it unforgettable , although that is probably the only thing I am remembering correctly.

NO Motor in the URL header must have been slang for Numbers Motor.

I hope whoever has the Vert now can catch wind of this Bird somehow
