Just to say, you shouldn't drive it 'cold', always let it warm up some, 160 coolant temp min, and never hammer it with cold oil.

Exactly it doesn’t fast idle and I have to keep my foot on the accelerator to keep the rpm’s up from about 500-600

The car looks and sounds great! Glad to see you got it back together. What length/brand mufflers are you running now?

I think my local muffler shop carries Dynomax. I’m gonna get them if they have them .

Yeah, you will need the longer case mufflers to quiet it down. For as little as the shops charge, it's not worth it to lay on your back and saw pipes off.

I think it’s got 14 inch case on it now, I may be wrong, it’s the 3 inch venom 300

Yeah, those aren't what would be considered 'quiet' ! Heheh!

As yes, the objective is to use as large a muffler case as possible to keep it on the quieter side. If the shop carries the mufllers, they can determine which is the largest that can be fitted.

IMO, as quiet as possible without a performance hit is the best goal. You don't want to draw attention when you hammer it is my motto.

Get the 20” long 17749 Dynomax Super Turbos.

I have used them on a couple of my ‘64s and they’re quiet enough during normal driving but have a nice muscular sound when you hammer it.

Bonus they flow better than the short 17734 mufflers.

What carb again? Gotta fix the fast idle, it's not hard.

Definitely use as large a case muffler as possible.

On another note, no pun intended, but tips that point to the ground also help quiet it down some. Maybe go to the side splitters, and angle them down some. That would help.

You have a full 3" system? You could go to 2.5 tail pipes, that would help too, and very little to no performance hit.

Drove it a lot last night and it jerks at low speed. Where should I start?

Maybe start by to dialing in the combination, working out the bugs and enjoy the car for a while. I didn't read the part about why the mufflers need replacing but if this was my project I'd hold off on that for a while.

Most likely the low speed bucking is carburetor related.

The 20" 17749's fit a '64 A body just fine.

My '64 GTO with the 20" Super Turbo's - and they are quiet enough so I can hear my stereo with the convertible top down.

You already have the 3" pipes, so slipping in the 20" case 3" 17769's should be an easy fix to your problem.

I can remember in Junior high, 63-63, dresses all in black, like Johnny Cash. LOL

In 1952 I was 6 years old, Hank played Live at the calabrese club, here in Westerly RI. I was 6 years old, I went to see him with my uncles and my grandfather. I will never forget it. I remember it like it was yesterday. At my uncle funeral 40 years later the played all of Hank Williams songs, I sat there in tears.
