Fitted & Non-fitted car covers. Got any picts?
Just curious what you guys are using for car covers on your 68-69's & what you like or don't like about them, price etc. I have been buying generic non custom fitted covers for my other cars & they are always inside, so its more to just keep the dust off them, but I still like something that a little more durable than just a sheet type fabric.
What do you have?

Just a generic dust cover. That will change when the car comes back from paint.
My El Camino has a fitted cover that's primarily used inside although I use it when traveling. Fits well. Bought it during an OPGI Christmas sale.

Covercraft brand (Made in Oklahoma) fan here. This is my latest fitted cover. I took a multiplude number of accurate measurements and provided them to Covercraft to stitch this one up. I had them make two covers for me, one in super soft fabric as you see here and a second in a heavier duty material for over top of this one for added protection. I have a car cover for my car cover to protect my car cover... A little over the top, yup.

I have a Covercraft Dustop custom fit. I got it because it's fairly thick and I figured it might help resist and dings or scratches from being parked in the garage next to the kids' bikes and stuff. It's bulky, but I like it.

ITs odd that there are not many pictures of these std production covers on the Cars. Just generic random model car picts.

$20.00 Budge car covers from WalMart. Use them on all my cars including a black car. I just put a sheet of thin plastic over it for added dust protection when storing for extended years. No need for anything fancy for indoor storage. If you are storing outdoors, a $1000.00 car cover won't help.

My biggest complaint with my cover is the way it sags around the rear bumper. Outside of that, it fits reasonably well.

I was looking in several websites that sell custom covers. What bugs me is they have no part numbers, so when you look them up by model & year, you have no idea if its custom made for the car, or just they typical small medium or large one fits all. I have several of those type of covers on other cars & they do an ok job, just don't want to pay $150-200 for an indoor cover & find out its the same as the $40 auto parts store covers. Hmmmmm.

My 69 GTO Calif car cover fit perfect. My 69 bird also.My 63 tempest and 62 GP IMO suck for "custom fit"I believe cars that share bodies like 69 GTO and Malibu
and 69 Camaro fit great.Anything that is not a exact body not so much. And they are not cheap.Tom |

Interesting comment about California car cover. I had the outdoor version of their cover on a 99 Trans am I had about 16 years ago. Fit like a glove. Not a wrinkle in it anywhere. I swore it was around $300 Now I see they are $600+. Ouch, thats a lot of money for a cover. There no question the one I had on the T/A was custom fir, but I find it hard to believe they make these the same way for the old cars.
Heres the inside dust cover. Its $300, but I would still like to see one on an A body before shelling out the money.

A car sized Snuggie is what you need, the arms double as mirror pockets or an antenna chimney!

Thinking about ordering one of there. Hopeful they are somewhat tailored for 68-72 A-bodies, but seeing they are a stretch fit, who knows....

Cal car cover. Tell em to leave off the stupid logo. I did. Get the Black one. Doesn’t get dirty around the tires. I wash it once a year.
Next, don’t cover a dirty car. Never. It you drive it, detail mist it off before you cover it. Something fell on my car, the cover protected it. Don’t complain how much. A paint job is way more.

I had a Cal Cover years back for a 4th generation Trans am. Also had the big logo on the front. It did help figure front from back though & fit was nice, That cover was around $350, back then & now they are $600 for what appears to be the same cover. Maybe they were $350 when other covers where only $99 but, boy they have gotten expensive.
Do either of you guys have pictures of your cars with the covers on? I would be willing to spend a little more if I could see how the product fits first, but I will likely never use in outdoors. Just a dust & debris cover for long term storage.

Although not a GTO, I bought one from OPGI for my ElCo several years ago. It was on sale, fit well, four layers, and no markings beyond a small 'FRONT' tag. I use it in the garage to keep the dust and other things off and space in my garage is tight, so it helps prevent those minor dings and scratches that may occur. Since the bed is next to the garage refrigerator I also use harbor freight moving blankets over the rear fenders if someone opens the refrigerator door too wide.
