Speedo remove
Hi, a friend tried to remove his speedo and face plate .at his 68 Gto .. he can’t get it out ..looks like the steering column has to lower or remove? too!
What’s the way to remove the speedo? Thx for any feedback

1968 GTO instrument panel speedo
What a ****xxx job ...to get out ... but we done it without any damage ..
orig 57K Miles ..car was junked in the late 70’s because a crash in the RH rear quarter .. Now time to clean all , new wireing and bulbs .polishing the glass..

Yeah, it has to be one of the toughest to get out.

After about the third time, I finally figured out that detaching the speed-o cable from the tranny end saves a lot of cussin' when trying to detach and re-attach it to/from the instrument panel. Relieves a lot of stress from the panel also.

Nope, too stubborn for that...I always undo Speedo Cable at dash because; well because. Im going to be upside-down and elbow-deep anywayz.

I replaced mine several years ago and it is a awful job. Don't know how long your arms are, but I found when working behind dash removing the glove box liner will give a little better access some times.

So is it practically impossible to just pull out the speedo cluster by itself?

Yep. You have to disassemble the dash and pull the whole instrument panel to get it out.
