He tried about everything under the sun to stop overheating, do you think a nylon fan would have been worth a shot? I did, and suggested that for around 30 bucks it was worth a shot.

Likely he could idle it back down to whatever RPM it was previously with a nylon fan. Idling it at 1000 RPM is the same as sitting in traffic with your foot on the accelerator to keep it cool. If he had a car with a automatic, the band aid would be a pain in traffic, but he has a stick, so it works.

The problem is not enough fin area with the smaller radiator he has. A higher volume of air would allow him not to have the engine 200 RPM higher than he previously had it set at. The water pump speed is maxed out with overdriving the water pump with a big lower pulley and a small diameter upper pulley. More pitch on the fan is about all there is left to move more air.

I don't feel it was bad advice, considering the situation with an undersize radiator. Running the heater fan he can keep it cool, so more radiator area is apparently what the combination needs.

It's irrelevant now, he found a band aid that works for his situation.....

Of course a bigger radiator would be great and would probably keep it at 180 in perpetuity but Cold Case said as long as I was seeing a 30 degree drop on the radiator from the neck it was doing it’s job. Radiator temp is 153 when it’s about 185. I am pleased. Maybe one day when all is said and done I’ll put a GTO radiator in it but right now I don’t feel like it’s a Band aid.

I am not kidding, for some reason all the other fans were low volume, even without the clutch engaged if you stand on the drivers side it will blow your hat off practically.

This is great news - was it with AC on?

I need some more help on something of the utmost importance . The passenger side of my seat wont latch. Its the original bench and the drivers side latches fine, I can drive it of course but if I have a passenger it slides back and forth. I took it out today and changed the springs (ordered them from Inline Tube) that work the mechanism and to me it seems to be worse. I have no idea what is wrong with it but even working the mechanism by hand it does not lock. I pushed in (towards the drivers side) on the whole bench and it seemed like it locked for a second but under pressure of a person in the seat it "clicked" and began to flop around again. Can anyone show me any pictures of how this thing is supposed to work?

Most cars, usually a rod from the left seat rail to the right, and both lock usually the same way. Maybe the lever that locks the right side is stuck? Or the rod is holding the lock out of the slot? Easy enough to pull the seat out, or at least look under.

I got my radio up and running today. We put 4 6x9 speakers in. One in each of the old fresh air vents and two in the package tray with a 1000 watt amp. I had my factory radio converted to Bluetooth with hands free calling and all that jazz. It sounds great, I just have to hide the mic. When I synced it I shuffled my music to see if it worked and the first song played in the car was Money talks by AC/DC. How appropriate

Ok so I think I might have said that the people who installed my AC ruined my dash. I think they lost money on the install so when they got to the end they just slammed it back together. I have no working gauges or lights except my tach and the under dash units. All of that worked prior to having the install done but I cant prove it so... Anyway I was looking at having it fixed and then a friend said look at the Dakota Digital. I looked at the RTX line and I have to say I am torn. I like my Green Lines under the dash but in all honesty you cant see them really well. They look cool and are accurate but they arent really where you need to see them. I know I sound like I am talking myself into the conversion but I'm not. I just dont want to do anything to wreck the look of my car.

Well, if you do end up going with Dakota Digital, I’d be interested in the Green Lines for my 68 bird.

Have you taken your dash bezel out to evaluate specifically what is wrong? Unless the shop cut your wiring up badly, which I think is doubtful for an A/C installation, I'd imagine it can be corrected fairly easily. Having recently done my own instrument cluster wiring, I've learned that it's not that complicated.

The Dakota Digital RTX line for GTO is the only aftermarket gauge setup that looks good (IMO), but at $1420, they ain't cheap. Personally, I'd fix what you have. And while it's a personal preference type of thing, I don't think the aux gauges require the kind of constant monitoring that would necessitate relocating that info to an aftermarket instrument cluster.

$1420 is insane - I’m sure install isn’t cheap either

I did all my wiring. Everything worked when I sent it. Now the speedometer cable was broken off in the spindle. I fished it out and its dead. The gas gauge I have trouble shot with M&H for about an hour and just cannot get it to stay still. It gives you a vague reading but driving it bounces all over hell and half of Georgia and if you pull the headlight switch it pegs past full. I have chased grounds, sending units, dead shorts, the only thing left is the gauge itself. I figured that I have to take the dash out and send those gauges off to be rebuilt which is down time because all the companies I called about it said about 6-8 weeks why not just do an upgrade that I could just swap with no dead time. I am driving the hell out of the car right now because it gets as good or better MPG than my Z71. It will be around Christmas before I can afford either so its really 6 of 1 half dozen of the other.

Who ran the A/C installation shop, some ex-girlfriend that you dumped?
