[66 Wagon]

A couple of years ago I was driving home from town to the countryside where I live.
To my surprise I saw a Pontiac at the side of the road with the hood open.



Naturally, I stopped and asked what the truble was.

The guy, who was half way home from a 800 miles roadtrip when the car broke down, explained that his '65 Bonneville suddenly had began to misfire and the it died on him.
We did a quick search and found out his ignition breaker points was burnt beyond repair.



Since the guy had no tools or anything with him I went home to take a look in the garage and found a brand new set of ignition parts to my '63 Grand Prix and some tools.
I drove back to the stranded guy and we replace the breaker points and after a while his 389 was idling in the way that only a Pontiac engine can sound.



The guy was smiling with his whole face when we said good bye.

A month later I happened to meet the guy again at a carshow in his part of the country.



He handed over a bag with new ignition parts for me and a load of other gifts as a thanks for the help. We had a couple of beers in his convertible and cruised around for a night, havin' fun

If you have his contact info, you might want to tell him that his points probably burned because the resistance wire has been bypassed somehow. Possibly the connection on the starter solenoid.

I got a call from the brother-in law Saturday,his son broke down with his '72 vette. Drove over and found no spark,stuck a screw driver in the door for the points and jiggled it around and it fire up. Yea things where simple back then.
