Default Front Seats STINK on `65

So my friend's 'new' 65 GTO has some horrible front seats! No support at all, they feel like you're falling on to the floor. The covers are decent, just the foam or springs are shot.

Suggestions? Can they be rebuilt to be better than stock? Or will stock due? The seats on my 68 were good and comfy.

Buckets, BTW.

TIA.

You can buy the new foam pads and they will be just fine and look correct.

Can they re-use the current seat covers? Interior is original and in very good shape.

I have the same question. Is there any way to stiffen up the support of the seat.

I watch some cover installation on the PUI web sit. I see that instead of using the sack cloth to put down on the springs they used used cheap vynil to put down on the springs. I just wonder if that added any more support.

There are different foam density that can be used to firm a seat up, but you have to shape and form them, not a simple DIY task. Even the sets that are sold by resto suppliers need work.

Also, once you get the foam off, you may find springs that need to be repaired, again not an easy task (to do properly).

Repo seat bases and backs are available for some models, but those too need to be 'worked'.

Best bet is to send them out and have them done. I suggest Legendary, though not cheap. You can ask them to use denser foam, add support in areas of choice, etc.

As for re-using the original covers, why? If you're going through all that trouble, use new. Only reason to use original is if the original material is no longer available.
