I order set from Paul at RARE had them in three days. Thay are beautiful . I got the best d port ,flanges, gaskets , and hardware all here on same three days . Only thing I'm waiting on is the down pipe and talk to him Friday's says it ready to ship so that will be two weeks but he told me when I ordered he had to make them . Did them in three coats of por 15 exhaust paint and cured in the barbaque at 300 for 30 minutes. They are not cheap close to 600 dollars with everything I bought but they look great and test on them show as close to header you will get.install this week. You can see all the port work he did inside .Fender inner wheel wells still off so hoping for easy install. Doug

RARE has 'CNC ported' versions that accept larger diameter head pipes than original, and make those in both D and round port. Same with the OE or non-ported ones. So for a particular body, there would be 2 D port offerings, and 2 round port.

I bought mine from RARE after looking into some recent test done on them and other. I have a mostly stock 69 400 with a set of 12 ram air 3 heads. 9.5 cr 360 hp and 450 lbs of torque at crank. I had gone back and forth on which ones to buy and my son told me buy the ones you want for father day( must of done something right) Can't ask for better then that .i will add they are not cheap. Like I said bought from Paul at RARE and talked to him and his son jay and both were great help. I got the 2 1/2 inch with all hardwear , gasket set and the long down pipe. I had everything in my hands in four days days except pipes that he was making and told me so. I do 90% of my business with Ames but these are really nice.i will take a picture of these next to my stock logs and I think you will be suprised at the difference. Huge. I will have them on this week end and take some picture of fit . Also the por 15 exhaust paint looks great not cheap either but heard great feedback three coats and a cure at 300 for thirty minutes . . Doug

Wanted to do follow up on RARE set I bought gasket, hardware and down pipes. Had all in three days except down pipe that Paul told me he was in process of making. Got my advance note from ups that the pipes will be here Monday. I Did did the Por 15 exhaust kit looks great and cured. Install for me went great but I have front fender and inner off. I still needed to remove stater and oil filter adapter to make thing go easy.( these thing are huge)no motor mounts and stater looks like it will be easy r and r .instal Maybe two or three hours . These are the ported 2 1/2 and are huge compare to stock logs. Very happy with Paul he was honest and told me when I would have them. Not cheap everything is going run 650 dollars but to me not to have headers draging under car and extra heat well worth it .also test that I have read I should see little to no power lost at my level.? I will be doing Dyno run soon and will will let you know what it does . I have heard some bad deal with them but I'm being honest they were great from first call on . If you want the best ram air manifolds these are them but that is my opinion only best luck to all happy to answer any questions. Doug

Thanks Doug, Looking to see your dyno results. Whats the specifics of the motor you are running?
I think so far that RARE products look to be high quality and Paul seems to be a good guy. I'm not here to slam him, just would like a little more communication from them.

I am running a ram air 3 set of # 12 heads with the 21/2 ram air exhaust. It produced hi 350 to 375 hp and close to 450 lbs of torque. I went with s mild street cam as it in my convertible that will never see the strip. Arp bolt use everywhere in build and got it to 9.5 CR As far as Paul every time I call him he answers the phone and told me everything I wanted great pontiac guy. I had told him about someone waiting two month and said they did have production problem for a while but that long behind him. All I can tell you never had a problem with them. I'd would highly recommend his over any other I have seen. These are hand ported all sharp edges removed Doug

I had a similar situation with RARE about 5 years ago when I was putting my engine/car together. As almost everyone has experienced, I needed the parts to arrive in time for a self-imposed deadline. Called RARE to confirm manifolds were in stock and could make it by the deadline (roughly 2 weeks from placing the order). I was told manifolds would be delayed but they'd call and e-mail when the manifolds were in or after a week with a status if they weren't. They were expecting the parts to arrive to their facility in a week. 10 days go by with no contact. Call them to ask about status. RARE says "Yep, they're on their way to us, we'll be shipping out all these orders (mine included) tomorrow. In the event anything happens to delay the shipment, we'll contact you.". I'm happy because I'll just have time enough to bolt the exhaust system together if the parts come in. And, if they don't come in, RARE will let me know in enough time I can hook up something "temporary" to meet my deadline. Three days later and no manifolds, no e-mail, no call. Call RARE (again) to ask about status. RARE says "No, we didn't get the manifolds we were expecting. But, we expect to have them in a 'week'". AARRRRGGHHH!! Cancelled my order and got the manifolds from another supplier.

At the time, I chalked this up to a small company taking on more orders than they could fill. But, even with the smallest of companies, I expect responses (either phone or e-mail) when they're promised. I also thought given the poor performance and demand for the product, there would be a lot of additional suppliers popping up to fill the need. Looks like that's generally happening. Of course, all that being said, I do see some people who appear to get good service and quick responses. My guess is that when they have product and someone orders, the items are quickly sent. Everyone's happy. When they don't have product and someone orders, they say "They'll be here in XXXX" and won't initiate communication regardless of what was promised.

Sorry for the rant. But, it made me feel a little better even after all these years! For as much as it helps, you're not alone in how you're being treated by RARE.

has anyone done this on a 67 gto/lemans/tempest body style.
did you have to change the underhood wiring harness?
i guess all the wires for the starter go down the front of the engine
and under the manifold to the starter. i believe there are other changes to,
maybe front brake lines, etc....

I will let everyone know I was nervous when I ordered these. Had heard horror story from some guys on here who have done a lot of work. I have also heard just as many positive stories like mine. All I can tell you is his quality is second to none and he was 100% honest with me on time and when it would be shipped. Invoice e- mailed to me the day shipped with ups tracking number. I hope thing work out because they are really nice manifolds. Doug

my 67 has a tube going down through the header. the same tube when it had the manifolds on it. the ram air 67 gto had a tube that mounted to the left motor mount directing the battery cable & solenoid wires under the ram air manifold to the starter.

That's what I'm thinking . Even if I tac weld in a mount for it but should be a simple fix. Really love these manifolds. Doug

Question Summit sells these manifolds?

Did you have to call Summit to order this kit? I cannot find it listed on the website or in their catalog.
Right now, I would just like to have the manifolds and get the rest of the kit later.
I did not know they sold the RARE manifolds, and I would like to install them on my 77TA. The engine is on the stand, so now would be a great time to attach them before installation.
This is on a 455 that I just recently got back from the re-builders shop and am wanting to get put in the TA.

TIA,
Dave

I have RARE manifolds on my 67. I bought them about 12 years ago. Bought the ones that are opened up inside. The sealed up perfectly using only the metal gasket, I didnt believe it but had been running them that way until last winter when I took the motor out for a rebuild.
I did buy a new harness for the Ram Air 67 car, but was going to do a new harness anyhow. Wires run down the front of the engine.

I have the tube that is mounted on the left motor mount and the wires run through that.

My understanding is RARE is sold by them only. Don't think you can get them from summit. If anyone know different please chime in. There are some other good ones out there but I think the RARE are the best but you will pay for them . Mine with hardware , gaskets and down pipes delivered was close to 650 dollar and worth IMO every cent. Bolted up nice to my numbet 12 heads in less than an hour but I had the fenders off car so don't use that as a fair install time . They are big and still removed my starter and oil filter bracket to make it a little easier. Doug

Question Pypes down pipes problem

got my Rare manifolds installed on engine and installed engine in car, went to install pypes down pipes I ordered from Summit and need to know if anyone has had to grind a notch for the bolts to fit where the pipes go against the manifold?

Looks like I will have to grind a small notch in the flare of the pipe before the bolt will go thru the flange and screw into the manifold.
Is this normal? Really hate to mess up the pipes, because it looks like there is not a lot of flange to fit against the flare on the manifold.

Also noticed the starter solenoid is extremely close to the manifold, any hot starting problems with these manifolds?

Anyone else had this problem?
Thanks!!
