On installing the tank and the fuel sending unit, I have been down this road before! Not wanting to repeat my mistake of having a bad unit. They
should measure 90 ohms when full and 0 ohms when empty..... Got the tank in place! I also installed the "gaggle" of vapor lines!...Got her all installed and did not even come up with one vacant line or opening....It'll either work as it was intended or.....it might just run backwards..

I would say the I am now ready for the rear end installation....
Love the look of everything being clean and painted. Got to love all the new lines as well...

Rear End Time...
She slid in there like a glove! The control arms lined up probably better than when it was on the line being built. Didn't even have to hit them with a hammer. New bolts slid right in. Even found a trick on installing the springs.... Installed the Gabriel High Jackers and ran all the lines inside the frame. Need to install the stickers Gabriel sent me... Red calipers look pretty sweet! Going to swipe a couple of the 68 Camaro's Torque Thrust D wheels and test fit them....That way I will know this week end if I want them or something else...

While at a client's business yesterday, I had the opportunity to not only visit with my friend Chuck Peterson, but also checked on my Pontiac 350. She is "sicker" than we thought. She has been used and abused! With this guy and his talent and knowledge, "Blu" will be on the road in style! These old Poncho blocks and heads we made to last...

Got home from Chuck's Engine Service yesterday and got started the removal of the front bumper, valance, grills, etc.
Need to either make repairs to the Radiator Core Support or would like to find a replacement if possible....

Had a great productive day yesterday! Spent the day outside cleaning, wire brushing, painting parts for the restoration of the '71...
Needed to order a new radiator core support for her as the original seems to be too far gone for me. Might work for someone else though! I think I will be collecting all the parts I did not use and selling them...anything from drum brakes, back plates, interior, bumpers, wheels and tires, etc. This thing just keeps getting better with time...

Core supports are not available aftermarket, either fix that one or find a used one in better shape. Good luck with that, they are not easy to find.

I would safely say that this 71 LeMans is worth as much, if not more parted out that a complete restoration.....

Spent yesterday afternoon in the shop! Don Cross aka Crossdog389 visited and we went through his two photo albums of the restoration of his LeMans and his GTO!
I do however have all the brake lines, Booster, Master Cylinder installed along with the steering box. Hope to work some more today on the front end...

I had a great afternoon in the shop! Installed all the upper and lower control arms. Next the steering column shaft and the steering box are now set in place...
I took the time and used steel wool and Blaster to clean each wire coming from the firewall loom... Temporarily installed the new spindles! Waiting for my new QA1 Motorsports coil over front suspension!...

My 1972 Olds 8.5 was original to the car, and when I tore into it, it had the sealed bearings in it. The original bearings and seals as a matter of fact, it had never been apart, except for brake service.
I thought 71-72 was the change over years for tapered bearings, and there was a service bulletin for 70s and before to use tapered bearings as a replacement? I could be wrong there. I think it's possible too that a casting date of April made its way on to a 71 car, since 71s probably started shipping in Aug/Sept. .

Hard to tell in the one pic in post #38 but do the axles for this rear end have the sealed axle bearings or the tapered axle bearings pressed on the shafts?
Since its a 9799100 rear it should have the tapered but they look sealed? |
