chevy engine in 70 GTO

I know that there are a lot of comments on the chevy motor in a pontiac but i must say i can't wait to get my 454 installed and running. The engine dyno was 532 HP @ 5400 RPM, 525 ft. # torque @4700 rpm on 91 octane. This engine is going to smoke in my GTO!

Is it worth it to do that to a 70 GTO? A 455 will smoke a 454, its been gone over in many posts, plus that is a valuable car. But hey whatever floats your boat, either way your car is going to haul ass!

Joe, I have a Pontiac 400 that makes a hundred more hp than that. Why not keep it Pontiac? If you want a chevelle, go buy one.

Simply put - Because I wanted a GTO! The engine comes from the shop of Beck Racing Engines here in Phoenix. The owner Frank Beck only builts chevy motors and does an unbelieveable job with the engines. And for someone like me who is totally ignorant to working on car he offers a turn key packages that includes everything you need. This was a very simple choice for me and I know I am getting a great engine and service from someone who is the best in the business.

just remember to take the gto emblems off because it might as well be a chevelle and is no longer good enough to be called a Pontiac any more

I personally like to see any brand car with the correct brand engine. However I also strongly feel that it is your car and your money for you to do with as you please.If that 454 makes you happy then it is money well spent. Some people think Im crazy for smoothing the firewall and putting a vintage air system into my 70 GTO. But you did at least pick the best year GTO.

as was stated, all that really matters is if you are happy with what you got. I know others who have purchased engines from BRE and I know I will be very pleased with what I get for the money I spent. I will be driving my GTO with a big smile on my face when it is roaring down the street. I just wish I could get the engine in soon, but I have a long way on the restore before that will happen.

My two cents, its your car do as you wish, BUT I would not take a car that had collectable value and change anything that could not be changed back with ease. I used to do street rods, early 30s cars and hot rod them. The purist hated it, but ib the case of many of the cars, a street rodded version sold for more and was usefull.
Now for a GTO, changing motor towers is all that should be needed to drop in a Chevy. You can swap back anytime.
I'm doing a GTO clone from a 66 Tempest and there is a very good chance I'll stick a sbc 350 in it for a while until I finish the 400 pontiac. No value lost in a 66 Tempest.

sounds like a butt kicking GTO to me... I say go for it. Wonder how it would do with the new 572 in it.

My first GTO was a'70 that was built up with a really wicked 450plus H.P. Chevy Big Block.
That car used to run in the Dutch Hot Rod Assóciations Streetmachine Drag class. It was close to being a national champion.

Anyway I bought it, drove maybe 10 to 15 miles with the car and then sold the BBC to a guy with a vette!
That money got me started on a 455 '70 GTOproject.......man I can't stand the thought of a GTO with a chebbie engine!!!
Maybe that's why I bought the car, cause I didn't want it to suffer the indignity of a chebbie engine!
