BBC in a 71 Ventura

I need to find the frame mounts for my ventura to put my BBC in and how much will a 6 banger "glide" handle

Frame mounts will be the same ones used for a Nova with a BBC..........dunno about the glide, I would go with a TH400. A properly preped glide will work good in a drag car that is fairly light........like 3000 or less. If your gonna drive it a lot go with a TH400.

The frame mounts are the same for any 67-69 camaro, or 68-74 nova to put the BBC there. The glide will probably handle 5-600hp if prepped correctly. The 1.76 "V-8" glide would be a better choice.

With the 6cyl glide you get a 'weaker' 1.82 ratio low gearset. I had a 182 low gear in my old chevelle with a 468 roller cammed braket car. I would come off the trans brake at 4800 rpm sometimes. The car was 3860lbs with me and ran a 6.90 eigth mile. It would have been MUCH faster with a TH400 but my 60 ft. times were in the 1.32 range on a 10 inch tire, carring the front wheels about 30 ft. Man I miss that car sometimes. Jim M.

Hugger was the glide prepped or was it stock

Hi Guy....You may want to sign up on the Team Nova site: www.novas.net They may be able to answer your tech questions involving the conversion.....In my opinion, a fully prepped glide would be ideal for the strip but not the street!.....I believe a good set up for the street for an excellent launch would be a built TH350, 3500 stall converter and a 12 bolt posi with no more than 4.10 gears!.....Or you could go with a muncie 4-speed with a heavy duty clutch assembly and a Hurst shifter!;)

The trans I had was built, but it did'nt have hard gears or anything like that. Jim M.

Thanks Hugger ands thanks 68 I did join the nova site too I'm actually on like four or five sites I'm kind of a knowledge junkie when it comes to hot rodding and drag racing I've been out of it for quite awhile and trying to catch up thanks again for all the input guys

my 71 had a 605 donovan in it before I bought it, glide and 410's, went high 9's.

This has been covered pretty heavily on that site since the subframe on you Ventura is the same subframe as the Nova. I've been trying to get them to start an BOP X-body forum to cover tech that is not directly related to a Nova. Since I am doing the rarer conversion of sticking a Pontiac engine in a Chevy Nova I've had to pick the 1st gen Firebird guys for tech since again the front subframe is pretty much the same as my 72 nova. The one thing I am still unsure of is the under the hood heater box. The box is different on BBC compared to SBC, but Pontiac does not have a distinction as far as Big Block and Small Block. Also the Firebirds I have seen all seem to have the SBC style heater box. Then again from the factory the biggest engine you could get in a 1st gen Firebird was a 400 and I am going with a 455 block. The basic engine profile is the same so I decided to go with the SBC since it is cheaper and the heater box change was due to valve cover clearance issues on BBC Novas and 1st gen Camaros.
