FUEL RETURN LINE

Is this a correct return line layout?

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...DS-ENDS/E1.jpg

Thanks.

Jeff,

I have a couple of very original AC cars ... not sure if they are exactly original (they were built in Arlington (your assembly plant may vary!)) but they both have the return line going un-bracketed over the valve cover toward the master cylinder.

Deadhead 08-18-2013 07:45 PM

That is the nicest engine compartment I have ever seen. Bar none.

SLOW & STEADY

First let me thank you guys for assisting with all my Q&A.
It is a bit of a learning curve as this '62 is all new to us.

We're past the fuel lines and now on to the AC.
The issue now are the AC Comp mounting mounting brackets.

We are changing over from a Gen to an alt and have found the compressor brackets don't seem to fit & function.

It's our assumption that the Alt used a slightly different set then the generator.
Can anyone confirm this.

We have been told there is a service bulletin/Newsflash on this change over.
Anyone have a copy of the service news?

The bracket in the 2nd pic is Pt#541188 it is very close but does not allow for any belt adjustment on the alt, poss for Gen ap only?.

Appreciate any all info on correct AC Comp with Alt, mounting Brkts.
Thanks again.

I had a '62 with factory air and alternator. I believe the brackets are the same as '63, but certainly not sure of that.

Engine-Ear 09-02-2013 09:21 AM

Don't know if '62 A/C-Alternator brackets equal the '63s, but since the '63 alternator bracket puts it (alt) in roughly the same place as the '62, you would be ahead of the game to call the Steves (Snyder in Indiana or Barcak in Ariz.) and buy a set of brackets from one of their parts cars.

Get a hand-held vacuum pump (Mity-Vac, for example) and test all of the 'spaceships' (both the single and the double) associated with the A/C box on both sides of the firewall.

I also suggest buying a copy of the HVAC shop manual!

What Engine-Ear said. That's exactly what I did and never looked back. Got my bracket from Todd Zimmerman. Had to make one small mod to clear the compressor, but other than that everything fell right into place and lined up very nicely. That was about 5 years ago, and haven't touched it since.

Good advice on testing all the vacuum actuators. I had one bad one, the double unit under the A/C box. Changed that out and everything has been working fine.

The HVAC manual is the best thing ever. Never could have gotten my system working again without that manual.

Thanks guys, we do have the Factory AC manual but it doesn't help with bracket ID as far as Gen Vs Alt.
It only has vague illustrations with the generator app.

Our dilemma is we have the cast bracket that bolts to head that was on the car with the Gen, it sits right against the Alum brkt preventing any adjustment.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...DS-ENDS/41.jpg

We bought the Alum Alt brkt from FRANKS but never thought to get the other pcs.
I guess we’ll look into the ’63 stuff
So we think the cast bracket and front plate brkt are different for the alt app.

Thanks.

"So we think the cast bracket and front plate brkt are different for the alt app."

Yes, totally. Good news is that the '63 A/C brackets and the '62 long alt bracket should work harmoniously. That alt bracket is tough to find and the SD crowd want them so if you don't use it, don't give it away; but as I said, you should be able to use it since the '63 alt bracket is very similar.

We'll between Don & I we have secured all the brackets needed to use the Delcotron Alt, with AC. I will post detailed images showing all brackets ASAP.
We were amazed how many mixed matched & missing parts systems we came across while searching for reference, we feel we have compiled a correct layout.

We have also secured a copy of the Craftsman Service News which has a very detailed write-up about the newly introduced DELCOTRON ALTERNATOR, unfortunately it only covers technical data on the alt with no other information,
i.e. brackets.
I will possibly add that in a separate post.

Thanks again for all the info; Parts, and/or leads.

Coming along...

It's nice when all the parts fit/work :D
Just a few more bits and she'll be looking real nice.

Thanks all!

Thanks for the images!

If you would be willing, adding the Delcotron article from the SCN will be very helpful for folks in the future.

Moving Forward...

...Just stopped in at the shop and low & behold she's sporting New Paint.
Painted just before the holiday, real nice color match.
As much as I was against painting her I have to admit she sure looks good.

Still more to go and lot's of fine tuning, as well as modifying a newly acquired set of 8-Lugs.
Not the correct year, but they sure look right at home on this cruiser :)

Engine-Ear 12-30-2013 12:04 PM

beautiful!

Jeff Hamlin 01-12-2014 09:38 PM

OK,
Detailing the trunk and have a few questions.
SPARE TIRE;
Did an online check to see some different cars and saw that some had the spare mounted on the PS as is the one at the shop and also some with the spare center mounted at the forward section of the trunk? Anyone know what dictates where it's stored/mounted? Is it based on model?

8-LUG/SPARE;
I see there should be a metal lid/cover on the 8-lug spare, with this would a tire cover still be used?

Anyone have a metal 8-lug cover to sell?

Engine-Ear 01-15-2014 11:17 AM

junk in the trunk

Jeff, from my research, YES. Bonneville and Star Chief had the passenger-side, floor-mounted spare.

I have seen the tin cover used on both types of wheels (5 and 8 lug). Both should also have the fabric/cardboard "shower-cap" over the spare tire.

Yes I do. I send Don an email. Should I address this with him or you?

Jeff Hamlin 01-16-2014 07:40 PM

Matt,
Sorry been off the grid.
If you can just let Don know you have the tire pan/cover.
It's his cash :D

Thanks
