70 / 73 T/A registry.
 

Anyone interested in starting a registry for all 70 to 73 Trans Am,s ? I know their is a Super Duty one but how bout for all T/A,s?
Let me know if your intersted and mabey I,ll start one, and mabey PY will host it on this fourm?

Not interested in TA registry... but a Formula registry would be awesome :p

After looking around the 2nd gen camaro fourm "Nasty Z28.com" I relized the registry should include all 70 to 73 Pontiac F body,s. Their should be a way to track how many bird,s survive, including Formulas.

Registry for ALL 70-73 Birds?
That's gonna be a BIG ONE.
Even just a T/A one for those years would be HUGE.
Ballpark production for those years is over 11k.
I'd say 60% are still with us.

70-73 Production
178,128 Birds
11,400 Trans Am

Approximately 180,000 units and no one sees the value of making quality reproduction full quarter and tail panels. I don't get it.

I think a registry is a fine idea. A database is a database, regardless of the production numbers. Keep in mind the total volume for T/A's from 70 thru 72 is quite low. These cars deserve a registry. Just my $.02.

I think it is a fine idea, with one small problem. Until Jim Mattison steps up and blacks out the key numbers on the invoices that PHS sends out I will remain squeamish about supplying VINs to people I don't know (as should anyone in the hobby). I have aksed and I get the "oh most old cars don't have the original locks anyway" response. I have also determined Jim's legal liability in the issue to be limited to "contributing" in the event that a car is actually stolen and it can be verified that the thief used key numbers supplied by PHS. As a result I find little incentive for him to change, unless we can get enough folks to pressure him into changing. My 2 cents on a registry.....

Sounds good to me but I'm already included in the SD registry.

Where are the key numbers on the PHS?

Can't make out the numbers very well on this copy - from my Revere Silver Formula - but the key codes are in the same row as the VIN, 4th and 5th fields from the left.

My only thought on this is how many locks still use the orignal key,s after all these years? Driving repo for the last 9 years I can,t tell you how many times even on newer cars I,ve run across changed locks.

I'll agree with NW S/D, not many cars have the original locks, I'd guess less than 10 percent and only after being put into storage for 30 plus years.

I share some of the same concerns. I have the original door/ignition locks on my '73, I just replaced the trunk and glove box since the trunk is usually the one that gets manhandled as mine was. I'm not crazy about posting my VIN for everyone either but everything keys off of it. Pardon the pun.

What would be the odds of someone using your VIN taken from a website, paying for the PHS, having keys made, then finding out where you lived and drive off with it?

If someone was going to do this they would probably just take the VIN off of your car while at a show,at least they know the general area of where the car is.

If someone wants it they will take it and there is nothing that you can do about it. No alarm, no garage, no type of security will stop them if they really want it. You can make it harder for them but you will never be able to stop them.

Great point John, anyone can get the vin. Maybe we should all put tape over our vins on the dash.

Our cars only use a thin spring clip to retain the ignition lock cylinder. A couple dugs with a slide hammer and its out!

Anybody who is versed enough in stealing cars will have it gone in 60 seconds.

I agree, I repo cars for a living, & I,ve never not gotten a car I went after, yes I do have the luxury of a tow truck but still if they want it it,s good as done. BTW I do cover my vin on the dash, & yes I have had to explain to cop why.
