weight X HP = ET
is there a basic formula for this?
Dave |
|
My 60 foot time show me having 937 HP!! I wish!!
|
HP from ET (1/4 mile) = WEIGHT * (5.825/ET)^3 is the standard accepted equation.
455earlybird, I need to double check that page. I think it might be for the time to get to 60 mph, instead of 60' time. I'll double check it. |
455earlybird, try it again and see what it is.
|
350HP, are u sure it isn't on the low side now? Darnit!
|
Seems pretty darned accurate to me. It's probably one of the most conservative calculators iv'e seen online, and probably one of the most realistic.
My mph indicates 610 fwhp. My ET indicates 640 fwhp. My 60' (1.44) indicates 633 fwhp. |

WOW I just put the hp#s of my old motor and the weight of my car and this calculator is real close.:clap2:

I haven't seen any calculators on any web site that were accurate. On the other hand, the $8 Moroso slide rule is DEAD ON. I run within .05 of what it says every year after performance upgrades as well as a few others that have had their motors dyno'ed at BES. Now if you get your motor pumped on one of those happy dynos, all is out the window.

John what are your ET/Weight stats and what is your HP?

WOW, it is amazingly accurate in my combo! *Your ET / MPH computed from your vehicle weight of 3250 pounds and HP of 321 is 12.60 seconds and MPH of 106.32 MPH. *Your Horsepower computed from your vehicle weight of 3250 pounds and MPH of 106.54 is 323.03. (106.54 was the best MPH last season) *Your HP is 321.11 computed from your vehicle weight of 3250 pounds and ET of 12.60 seconds BUT, my ET and MPH are not optimized as evident by my best 60' of 1.864 and the engine nosing over at the top of 3rd gear! It will be interesting to see what it shows when I run the car next Spring. It shows my current FWHP is 417 which sounds cool. But with the new intake, 1/2 fuel line, and 3500 converter it should make a marked improvement! JD |

HEY BRO, HOW YOU BEEN? & HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU AND YOURS!;) Now on to the topic at hand! I must point out, (AND Mr. JOHN LANGERS WILL AGREE) These calculators and the moroso power speed calculators work their best when you totally have your suspension sorted out and are hooking well for your E.T. & M.P.H.!!!! Otherwise you're just spinning your wheels so to speak and won't get actual hard core data to go on!!! SO MAKE A PRIORITY TO GET THAT POWER TO THE GROUND FIRST AND FOREMOST!!! |
3250lbs [email protected], how much hp did I make???
|
Your HP computed from your vehicle ET is 905.74 rear wheel HP and 1,006.38 flywheel HP.
Your HP computed from your vehicle MPH is 805.55 rear wheel HP and 895.06 flywheel HP. This is probably the minimal HP if the car is set up right. This is just using the 3 inputs. No cd of the car, gears, converter, head flow, etc. |
So what does your calculator say if a motor makes 976 hp and weighs 3250?

Aint no way in hell a 1000hp N/A car is going to pick up 36 on the back half weighing 3250. 29-31 is average. My pass was 1.22 60', 5.46 at 125 at the 1/8 and 8.61 in the 1/4. The car went thru the lights at 8800rpm.
|
TH400 or Powerglide?
4.88 rear gear? |
aint no way in hell anything other than an inefficient power adder car is picking up 36 on the back half
|
These Calculators just bring it out in the open how much our air sucks here. To correct a 650 HP motor in the West Texas summer plan on subtracting 109 HP
LOL John Krull |
What's 36? MPH?
My dragster is the opposite of what you and the other high HP guys run. I usually have a great ET but a poor MPH. I usually run 8.20's in 1/4 with only 153 mph. These equations aren't accurate but they usually get you in the ballpark. If you want accuracy, I would try PipeMax from maxracesoftware.com But for free . . .:) |
My Results from Wallace Calculator
482 cubic inch in Firebird
Your HP is 725.84 computed from your vehicle weight of 3060 pounds and ET of 9.41 seconds. Your Horsepower computed from your vehicle weight of 3060 pounds and MPH of 143.5 is 743.18. 474 cubic inch in Firebird Your Horsepower computed from your vehicle weight of 3060 pounds and MPH of 141 is 705.01. Your HP is 705.40 computed from your vehicle weight of 3060 pounds and ET of 9.50 seconds. 500+ cubic inch in Firebird Your ET / MPH computed from your vehicle weight of 3000 pounds and HP of 800 is 9.05 seconds and MPH of 148.05 MPH. This calculator is pretty darn close. My new engine combo for 2007 will be a 500+ cubic inch that should make about 75-100 more hp than my 482.If this calculator is right,I will be one happy camper |
So what causes the difference in horsepower ratings between ET & MPH formulas ? Which one is accurate or do you average the two?
|
John, you know I've gotten blasted by some here as making excuses when I mention "conservative dyno numbers" that match the Moroso slide.
Here's the 525hp engine dynoed 455 in a 3750 lb TA with a street convertor 60 ft 1.616 1/8 7.04 @ 99.1 1/4 10.995 @ 124.5 |
old goat racer, the MPH equation is probably more accurate.
ET can be affected by many things. But the MPH is usually the same if it's ran all the way through. For an excellent ET calculator, try ET Analyst It uses more inputs and is relativily cheap. |
Thanks John. Using the MPH I come up with 455HP, & using the ET I have 473 HP. That will give me a number to throw at racers.
|
When I calculated mine the ET & MPH were 2hp apart.
|
...temperature changed during calcs
